Hirobo Gazelle Fenestrom fan
Just had a lucky (depending upon your point of view) escape whilst test running the gazelle prior to returning it to 'active duty' as it threw one of the fan blades. Came as a bit of a suprise as I had looked everything over and didn't see any damage....

This is what was found when the end cover was removed. As you can see the blade opposite the 'thrown' one was just about to also let go.
I then stripped all the blades out and found more cracks once I had cleaned the blades up.
As you can see they all have cracks at either side of the main pins.

How did this get missed? The oil put on the blade pins tends to fling out and leave dirty line marks so the cracks just looked like oil smear lines and thus it wasn't until I cleaned them and the lines remained that it became obvious.

Hindsight is wonderful so now two things. If you have one of these then check the blades to make sure they have not cracked with aging.

Second - ANYONE GOT A SPARE SET........ Or know if the modern Hirobo fans are the same???? If not then I will have to attempt to manufacture something as replacement.....

Joe,

This is not an un-common problem with the old fan.

The new Hirobo type is to large and totally different in it's design.

If you do a search for Andre in France - he made some replacements from Carbon. maybe he can do some for you.

You can contact him from here....

Received a reply and it appears he is way too busy to bother to help anybody else out.

Looks like I will have to find a solution elsewhere.

A few years ago, I sent a cracked blade to Bud Bolton at Quick UK - he was going to see about making a mould and re-moulding them.

So it may be worth a try to see if he ever did it ?

Thanks.

Will try that avenue though it looks like a replacement modern hub with cut down blades will be the best answer.

Joe plastic will certainly get brittle over the years so your old blades may be bordering on disaster. I would suggest going with your latest idea to build a more modern hub with fresh blades.Wayne - Fly it like you stole it! You're in good hands with Runryder!
