tail linkage rod length? anyone?
ok i got my vel50 off rr and im woundering if it has the correct tail linkage rod on it, "the longer one of the two" for some reason when the boom is in the frame and tail assymbly is on, the linkage rod is not long enough? with the link on the tail pitch slider i can put the ball link on the pivit lever but, only with the lever pulled to the rear and does not allow proper movement? any ideas thanks

Sounds like the boom isn't in all the way or the TT isn't in all the way, with the boom in the frame, remove the tailcase and the outside of the TT splines should be flush with the end of the boom, if not something isn't seated all the wayClyde Fox

take the tail boom and tail case out of the heli and make sure the boom is seated all the way into the front of the case, I guarantee the boom is NOT all the way pushed into the front of the case, if you have already done what I suggested and verified the TT splines were flush with the rear of the tail boom with the tail case removed it has to be in the front.Clyde Fox

Nevermind. It's the rod from the tail to the mixer that you say's too short.

ok so i pushed the tt from the back so it would stick out alot in the front so i could visually see it go into the front gear all the way the slid the boom in, the splines are not flush with the end of the tail boom but i would still need more room then what is showing, either the tt is the wrong length or my linkage rod is to short.hey! were is the reset button!

The problem I had very early on with the tail boom is the ends of the boom that go into the front case had very sharpe edges and when I inserted the boom into the plastic front case it bit into the plastic and didn't let the boom seat all the way, the ends of the boom now are slightly camferred (rounded) just a bit to allow the boom to slide easier into the front case, the only way I've found when I question if the boom is all the way in is to simply remove the plastic case, open one side and make sure it is up against the front of the plastic case.

The Center to Center measurement of the push rod with the links installed is 656mm

Measure the rod, it should be 640mm without the links, this will tell you immeadiatly if it's the rod or in the boom/TTClyde Fox

Not following???, the front of the TT splines should be flush with the rear of the tail boom, if the boom is in the front case as far as it will go the TT will be able to push in and the entire spline will go in the end of the boom, what I mean by the spline is the thickness of the 4 bladed area is about 5 mm, the front of that thickness should end up flush with the end of the boom otherwise you will not be able to get the tail case on far enough, and the rod will not reach the pivot arm.Clyde Fox

I hate to say this but the only way to see what is actually going on is to pull the 12 bolts from the front boom case and get it in your hand and open it up and see why the TT won't go that extra 5 or 6mm into the boom. We just changed out a boom and TT this afternoon at the field and had no issues but we did have the case out and in our hands and I made sure the boom wasn't digging into the pastic as it was one of the original booms without the slot being rounded and I knew it was going to give me a hard time seating so we simply opened the case and slid everything in.

Something is just bothering me that you can't get the tt in any further, I also read that someone found a bit of extra
"aluminum flashing" petruding from the end of his TT not allowing it to penetrait all the way, maybe this is your case??? the end of the TT should have a tiny nipple that is 6mm long if it's longer this could be the problem, please let us know so I can get with Charley and he can look into it.

I set my tail up with all the bellcranks at 90 deg and 8 deg on the tail blades. By doing that I have had to shorten both of my pushrods 1/4" (1/8" on each end). I had a boom (I had said TT, which is not what I meant) that wouldn't go in all the way. I believe the reason was the frames were putting too much pressure on the boom case. Clyde's right, you need to pull it out. I would go so far as to assemble it on the bench.Flying $uck$...All of the money out of my bank account!
