One thing is the carb
I think the porting or timing was improved for more power on the ST2 and the ST1 only had one needle on the carb where as the ST2 has the standard 2 needles on it like the 91 motor. That's 2 needles not counting the idle screw, I'm talking about 1 high end and one midrange needle.

Perhaps you can find the manual for the ST by looking around a bit ...
Been there, done that and old enough to know better.....
