Protos thrusted tail
Well Im at it again lol.
I have just replaced my entire tail with bling from Infinity Hobby.
I have not tested yet to see if the pulleys were my vibration issue from before.

Anyway, the point of this post, is how to convert your tail blade grips to thrusted.

Yes its been posted over on HF before, and most likely here too.
But I thought Id bring it up again to refresh peoples interest.....well maybe lol

I tried using the stock tail hub, and thrust bearings from the main blade grips of a Trex 450.
I also used 3mm thick radial bearings (also from Trex 450) to provide enough space for the thrusted bearings.
I have no idea where I found the spacers to go between the radials and thrusts lol.
Anyway, its all a moot point, cos it did not work.
Bearings were very notchy, even with low torque on the screws.

On to plan B
Using Mikado Logo 600 tail.
Part number is 04069
This comes in one packet:
Tail blade grips (useless for us)
4x radial bearings
2x thrust spacers
2x sets of thrust bearings
1x tail hub
2x hub screws
1x grub screw
2x washers

Retails for about $37AU, which for you Yanks is about $30-$33 roughly converted.

So remove your stock radial bearings, and replace with the Mikado ones (I put the thicker bearing in first, followed by the thinner one.
Then fit the thrust spacer
Then thrust bearings (grease them first)
Push the grips all the way down onto the hub.
This will leave about 2mm of the tip of the hub exposed.
Locktite your retaining screws in.
Blow hard from the side onto the screw head, yep it sounds weird, but it gets the excess locktite off, and keeps it from contacting the outer thrust bearing.
Pull grips back out into place.

Now then, to get your ball link screws lined up properly, you need to use anything you have handy to space the screws about 2mm further out from the grip.
You MUST do this to get correct pitch link geometry.

Thats it, simple really, especially when you now have a "how too" guide lol j/k

I will hopefully be test flying it this sunday, weather permitting.

Cheers
For the love of the hobby

Forgive my ignorance but what is the difference between the standard type and thrusted?

Thrust bearings in the tail along with radial ones. The thrust bearings help the tail stay smooth with all the centrifugal forces applied because of the tail spinning...........RonTeam MikadoUSA 480XXTreme, 550SX, 600SX, 700XXTreme, 800XXTreme!!

I switched to the Infinity tail and mounted the thrusted Kasama tail-grips for the T-rex 500 on the stock tail hub + longer tail fin from Infinity. Now you can mount any standard size 500 tail blades. Works perfect + looks cool too
