Surprise...Another Tail issue question.
500ESP, new style Align outrunner 500 motor 13t pinion.
DS510s and DS520 on tail with GP780 gyro. DX7SE radio. -/+ 13 degrees pitch. 3000MAH 30C 6S pack.
100% power curve

Here is the issue:
HOVER TEST:
Tail is loose in hover. Slowly bobs back and forth and slowly drifts. With any Positive Collective it holds but anytime I drop the collective or even if I move the rudder stick to bring it back to the proper heading it continues its slow wag.
Tried gain settings anywhere from 55 to 70% The higher I go the quicker it wags.

FORWARD FLIGHT TEST:
Tail seems to be ok in flight but does do the slow wag occasionaly after input or pitch change.

My guesses are possibly notchy bearing somewhere in the tail. Maybe the the one way bearing needs grease? I do have the ball on the closest hole to the servo screw but that was just to get the rudder control rod more inline with the boom.

Anyone want to throw some ideas at me?

I would try moving the control rod out on the servo arm. The manual for you gyro says that the idea distance is 10mm from the center. I might go a little farther out if you can't get it right at 10mm. Also another thing i would look at is to make sure you didn't put any delay in when you set up of th gyro. Your using a good and fast digital, you don't need any delay. I would start with those. Just my thoughts.

Not to be a jerk but my 500 flew great out of the box BUT I am using a Spartan with a 9254 servo. If you are having tail issues it is always best to check your radio setup and then the gyro, chances are you have something set wrong. Also disconnect the tail rod from the servo and make sure there is no binding, some have found that the tail pitch slider can bind on the ball, adding a small washer to the 3mm mounting screw fixes this. The 500 likes a fast HS so in idle up you should be running at least 90% straight line on the T-curve.
Many will argue this but it is important to do a good mechanical setup so that there is no left or right drift in "normal" mode (about 8* of tail pitch). check helifreak setup vids.

Thanks for the advice. How do you get the GP780 in normal mode?
I have my Gyro set to Gear in my DX7 but when I flip the gear switch it doesn't do anything.

I have not setup a GP780 gyro search for setup info here and on heli freak. OR you can just eyeball a few degrees of right pitch into the tail slider to counter act the main blade rotation.

So, I made sure there was no delay. Checked for binding. Everythingwas perfect. Pulled the torque tube out and replaced it and the bearing with a new one.....problem solved. Tail is very nice now.
Thanks for the tips.
