"Nucular (w/ apologies to W) Option" vs "Reconciliation"
The Democrats on Senate Reconciliation, circa 2005 (when "that Devil" was still in office):

Breathtaking, non? Ah, but that was then.

The Opposition should throw this clip up on the screen at this so-called Health Summit circus scheduled for tomorrow, and then walk out en-masse.

No, by the ones that know the difference between reconciliation and the nuclear option. They are 2 completely different things.
Democrats are proposing to pass a public option bill via reconciliation.

Thats complete bullcrap. They are one and the same:
The distinction here is very clear. Reconciliation is authorized by an Act of Congress; the nuclear option is a power play dreamed up by a right-wing policy shop. As former Senate Republican Leader Bill Frist said of reconciliation, “It’s legal, it’s ethical, you can do it.” Simply put, there’s nothing “nuclear” about progressives believing that they can pass health reform by a majority vote; that’s simply known as “democracy.”
The only difference is that the "Nuclear Option" is the rights way of the "Reconciliation Option". Same thing. All it takes is 50 votes to override any veto and pass a bill. A process that has only been used for emergency budgetary bills in the past. Thats why it would be historic. Its never been used for the largest entitlement program in US History.

Nice try Ozark. Another example of the left trying hard to re define history.

I guess using a budgetary process (reconciliation) to pass sweeping policy changes is just fine when Dems are in power... But trying to seat judges without filibuster proof majority (something that has never been required before) is a mortal sin.

LOL!

There is no way these people can really be this stupid... They are simply so drunk with power they can hardly stand it.

I can't believe how much we heard about the "rights of the minority" and "checks and balances" from the left 5 years ago. Seating judges with a 51 seat majority was a "constitutional crisis" and would tear apart the very fabric of the republic.

Now that they are in power, the attitude is: "Screw the minority... WE WON! Lets ram through a takeover of 17% of the US economy... Against the will of the people".

I sure hope these chickens come home to roost in Nov and 2012.

Isn't it funny how the left sees government as some big, faceless, benevolent, trustworthy entity? Yet nearly everyone knows that the individuals who make up this entity are generally despicable on every level. Congress has a low approval rating. What around 10%? Yet insane people want to put them in control of more and more of our lives all the time.

Yikes!

That pretty well sums it up.

Think about their gaining more power. What would life be like?

Can you say Venezuela?

OCB is correct and I was incorrect. Therefore, I've retitled this post, as indicated.

Now on to political strategy: the Dems had fillibuster-proof majorities in both houses, before Scottie upset their applecart.

Therefore-

1) Why isn't their healthcare boondoggle already law? No Repubs were needed. Leading to...

2) This HC "Summit Circus": the Dems could have, at any time, even after Scottie drove his pickup to DC, passed this mess into law via reconciliation. So why have this bi-partisan charade when they know no Repubs will support it? In other words~

3) Since there's no Repub support going in, why not just scrap this stupid photo-op and enact their statist legislation into law???? Just grow a hairy pair, DO IT, and live with the consequences!! Don't make me come up there!!

Don't they need just one so they can whine that they are bi partisan and reached across party lines..
Also someone to share the blame with when it fails.
It never seems to matter, when all democrats don't go with them , but it does when one republican doesn't?

Force it through ,you are the ones in power, you said you knew what was best . DO IT.

You got the ball ,drop it and suffer the consequences.

Looks like more and more each day that they will suffer the consequences either way. They have lost the battle. Not the war yet. But, they are close.

Precisely what I've been saying since Jan 09: You won the election, you have the majorities, stop all this moaning & bitching about so-called "bipartisanship" and PASS YOUR DAMN AGENDA. Man up and stop crying like babies!

share?

I doubt it.

They'll do what they ALL (D and R) do when fecal matter hits the ventilation - point the finger at the other party.

The only thing our government can do on a bi-partisan level is sh1t all over the American people.
