What do you got in a boat?
A hull, a motor, and a throttle and rudder servo. There isn't a whole lot to vibrate I mean even if it vibrated like a son-of-a-biatch at 18k who cares? Its not like its gonna pop a link and crash

you obviously never been to a race, boat crashes can be spectacular and very expensive. boat engines also rely on the tuned pipe to make about 20-30% percent of the power so tuning the pipe for the engines power curve make it easier to run those rpms. peace, Al

I think it's ironic how the car guys and the boat guys eventually transition to helicopters. In fact, it seems that no matter where you enter into the RC hobby, you end up transitioning to a helicopter eventually. Helicopters seem to be the end of the evolutionary chain.Avant RC

That wasn't my point Al
What I meant was vibration from a boat motor running at 17k is not an issue like it would be in a helicopter. A badly vibrating motor in a helicopter can make you lose screws or worse pop a link and crash your heli.

In a boat, vibration is not going to have such drastic effects on it.

I'm sure boat crashes can and do happen in races, my point was, boats don't crash from vibrating motors.

Boat world I have heard several in the high teens in rpm. Just crazy rpm and all HP's. I find this stuff pretty interesting. Al I have heard how much a big boat race brings in for the winner. If only Ircha had gasser races with the same kind of money..haha

As Far as the Klotz. I used Klotz for a while as well. I agree it protects the motors, and may be great for higher rpm boat motors, but would disagree that in heli world and I am speaking from what others and myself have witness is that the oils that are a bit thinner than Klotz seem to work better. Maybe the flashpoint is not that big of an issue, but Klotz is pretty high compared to what I am using now and it seems to work better than Klotz with a very small amount of wear in comparison.

I disagree in using a heavilly modified motor with Coleman. 12:1 might work fine, but other motors with much higher compression need the higher octane.

so I guess it depents on your motor and its porting.

I started running boats when I was about 8 years old. When I was 17, I started working for the US OPS engine dist here in New Orleans. I worked there for a little over 5 years and got to do a lot of traveling. The Toledo Trade show was one I looked forward to every year. I came really close to getting a heli back then but was talked out of it by a few local heli guys. They had a love hate relationship with RC helis back then (around 1985,86,87). Back then everything was basically nitro. I drifted in and out of the gas seen up until about 10 years ago when I got serious about gas boat racing. A few years later I got picked up by a sponsor and was traveling everywhere to race. Like Al said I designed my own hulls and produced and sold two of them that are still available today.

I started flying when the Blade CP came out. I could not fly it but I kept trying. When the Blade CX came out....I was hooked. I went from the CX to a Raptor 30 and all hell broke loose. I have had close to 20 helis in the last 5 years and currently fly 2 T-Rex 700 LE's. I also have a T-Rex 600E that has never been flow and I have this Gas heli that I should be getting soon. I have to go drive to Houston to pick it up.

A funny thing happened to me about a year ago. One of the guys that had talked me out of getting into the helis years ago asked me to help him set up his new heli he just bought. LOL!

The Gasser will be used for AP work only. I have a friend that owns a production company and I was telling him about R/C AP work a couple of years ago and he has been after me to do something with it locally. I guess we will see where it goes.

Anyway that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Not sure if this will work or not but if it does...listen to this motor. It's a Zenoah 260. It sounds like a nitro motor!!

Edit, It did not go where I wanted it to. When you get on the link...go to the boat vids and watch the third vid...the 104mph pass. This vid was taken at a NAMBA time trials in CA.
