You wanna hear a funny story?
A couple of weeks ago I went to the local airplane RC field (95% airplane only 5% heli pilots if that) and no-one was there. Looked like the snow cover was fresh something like this:

(Thanks Ron for the picture - borrowed it from your other post!)

Well the left side of the runway had some airplane ski marks, but the right side was virgin snow. So after flying around a couple of flights with my Spectra, I got the idea to try to write in the snow.

So I spent about 10 minutes, and wrote the following in the snow:

H E L i
R A j

At first I did just H E L i and even landed the skids and did a pirouette in 1 spot to dot the i, but later decided to add my name so that the airplane guys would see it and know it was me. Took a while as I was trying to be careful and not make any mistakes dragging the skids in straight lights in the snow to draw. The R and J were the hardest, curve flying while dragging skids.

So yesterday I go to the field, since its going to snow or rain for the next week and want to get a few flights in before the bad weather. Who do I run to? Well the old guys, 70+, who ABSOLUTELY HATE helicopters. These are the people that always leave the minute I show up, no matter how nice I am to them, they just can't stand being around helicopters.

So one guy is in the middle of the runway flying his small twin electric (and mind you they fly all electric small planks), can't even stand at the fence to fly he has to be behind it to take off, and the other guy sees me and walks over and I greet him as usual with a smile and a pleasant hello.

So get this, he says to me, we saw you signed your name in the snow...we were out there one day, and we saw all those markings in the snow and no footsteps we didn't know what it was, you know? We walked over to see thinking it was crop circles or something like that, and then we realized it said H E L i and right below it R A j and you even dotted the i's!

I said wow, I'm excited you actually saw it!!! I left it there for you guys

So he goes, "did you do that inverted"? I laughed and said, "No sir, if I was inverted you would have indeed seen those crop circles!"

Nothing like leaving a message for the plankers, that was well worth it especially since the guy on the runway has always been rude to me ignoring me when I saw hi with no response back, unlike the guy whom I talked to which always is pleasant but I know he dislikes helis anyways.

Low and behold, as always, by the time I got in the air and did my first auto, I turned around and the 3 guys were driving off, probably on their way to another soccer field that I've seen them at about a mile from this club field. Sometimes I feel like saying when I show up, allright boys, time to pack it up, fun is over, let's go because they never stay...

Nice one Raja!

That brings back some child hood memories of when I used to live in MA.

But we used a completely different method for writing our names in the snow...

Yep, we have the same thing at out field. The over 70 plankers club leaves as soon as the heli's come out of the car. Boy, you think heli's have the swine flu or something lol.One mile of road will take you one mile. One mile of runway will take you anywhere in the world.

Ha ha. I've made that mark in the dirt before.

See Raja, when I show up to the field, I like when all of the planker guys leave. We have a lot of newbies at our field who can't fly worth a $hit, and so you have to keep an eye out for them because they will occasionally crash into the parked cars or into whatever you have set up on the ground.

Well then...
See Raja, when I show up to the field, I like when all of the planker guys leave.
Maybe its time to pull out your Spectra-g, bring it to the field, and say you're new to helicopters and want to learn to fly this big monster.

Then, if that doesn't scare them off, go and do some circuits and then roll it on its side and start screaming "head up HEADS UP!" and then make some swooshing recovery, land it and pretend to change your shorts.

That will SURELY get them outta there

Bad Attitude...!!
Hi All
Looks to me that I am not the problem here !!! I have the same problem here in South Africa at my field when I fly my heli, the difference is that I fly planks too, even better than my clubs Chairman (He is also an Instructor,Not Heli's). I started flying planks in 1978, stopped in 1991.Started flying Heli's in 2005.In March 2009 started flying planks again JUST to Prove Heli Pilots are Better Pilots than Plank Pilots. "They" HATE Me for that, and I love to prove them wrong that they are better than US, Heli's RULE !!!

Keep The Rotors Turning and the Pilot COOL...

Regards

Can planks and heli's share the same field? I'd like to think so, but I don't know. Maybe not.

The theme of this post implies that they can't and shouldn't. That heli pilots should take pleasure in making plank pilots uncomfortable.

I'm thinking there are similar posts on other boards with plank pilots deriding heli pilots. And I find Raja's comments troublesome, as previously he had a machine deliberately taken out of the air by a plank. I wonder if they posted some sort of victory message, laughing at another "heli pilot" who learned his lesson.

This whole post is not in the best interest of the sport
