working on my spectra, put in a new gyro and servo, the biggest pain in a spectra is routing the wires, its like 5lbs in a 1lb bag, any ideas and pics of equip location and routing?

Check my gallery Mike
Lots of Spectra pictures under the hood. Probably not up to date to the current spec, but close enough.

You should see mine. My wires are a mess but my main concern is making sure the wires don't rub on the frame. I don't really see a good way to do it either unless you shorten some of the servo wires and that just seems like way too much of a hassle and another place for a posible failure because I'm not sure if I would try to solder the wires or just cut a section and then splice the wires back together.

No easy answers..agree way tight. I use a mix of thin spiral wrap and servo braid.. again a narrower one that can only be put on by pulling the pins. I also avoided all Y leads by using a bigger rx and I have my dual nihm/switch system etc. Something like 13 or 14 plugs into the rx..

These pics are a little dated..the exhaust leak is sorted and the remaining wires will be sheathed once I'm happy it's permenant.

Another way of going around the problem is protecting sharp edges.. thesed days I use tank rubber bits glued to the frame.. easier than splitting fuel tube. Align tank rubber is softer than predator tank rubber and easier to slip over the frame edges.

My Spectra is still on the bench waiting for me to hunt up the tail kick (again)

Mike, which gyro combo did you switch to? I can post a couple of pics of how I routed the wires in mine in a few days. The Gy520 takes up so little space. Surprisingly, that little thing holds up pretty well even though the engine is pissed off. Damn break-in!
Things are pretty hectic right now with mid-terms, but I should be able to get you something this weekend.

I like it! Ooooh, and you even got the zimmerman muffler for it, NICE! I find that much better myself than the Predator v4, which periodically did this to me and pissed me off...

Not as bad as this, but there was some splatter like this from time to time around the engine several flights after I resealed it...

Yes that has to be one of the most well organized, well thought out installations I've seen on a heli. Nice work!
What sort of a tone does the Zimmerman have? I have a Century V3 on my Pred. now. Nothing wrong with it; it works just fine, but I'm not sure I like it's "note".
Just curious, is there a cure for this addiction?

Zimmerman
In my opinion it sounds better than the Century muffler, ESPECIALLY the new slim light one for the Radikal which I consider to be "ear piercing" almost like the stock box not as bad but in that "note" so to explain it better.

The v3/v4 don't sound ear piercing at all, but are 2db louder than the Zimmerman according to my sound meter tests.

I used a v3/v4 for quite some time and did not mind the sound, the occasional leaks bothered me. When I got the zimmerman, I liked it even more, no leaks like the Century and the sound is a little quieter and better in my opinion.

I have a V-bar on mine, so there are even more wires to try and stuff in there. I wrap all of my wires with black wire loom an then bundle them together with tie wraps. Using tie wraps on bare wire will damage the wire, but using it on wire inside of wire loom seems to be OK.Avant RC

Thanks Raja. This is what I wanted to hear! Quieter is better for me and a more pleasant note would be welcome as well.
Thanks for the info.

Anytime John
And in case you're going to ask next, you can get one of the zimmerman's from Irwin at QWW, that's where I got both of mine that you can see in my gallery. One is rear exhaust, the other is front.

Thanks Raja. The pics were taken before the maiden and I put the V4 on before I ran it upon recomendation of the engine builder. I run the Zimmerman on my Predator and it is much quieter than the G with the V4. The V4 is unplugged, meaning the restrictor has been removed because the engine creates it's own back pressure.

What I found works for me on the V4 is a copper gasket and make sure the muffler flange is flat by pulling it accross 400 grit wet/dry paper on a piece of glass until the surface is perfect. Tighten the muffler bolts a few times while the engine is hot to crush the copper and then forget it.

Here she is on maiden day.

I know most of you like the after market pipes but i'm running the stock can and it does not leak at all. I know it's a little loud but i fly by myself so it does not bother me i kinda like the sound. Most of you guys wire looks 100 times better than mine. I can't run a neat wiring system. Good job guys.

Thanks
Ivan
