YS vs OS bearings ?
Hi guys

Here is a picture of a YS 91 Sr bearing on the left vs. an OS 91 bearing on the right. They are both original bearings. The YS bearing has 'KOYO' , 'JAPAN' and '16003' on the other side.

They are the same size, have the same 'plastic' retainer. The only difference is the size and number of balls.

Which is better???

Regards
Paul

My personal experience (with the YS50 vs Hyper50)

New YS50 Koyo Japan 6903
New OS50 No markings

Same heli, pilot, fuel, fuel magnet, storage conditions ...

Average number of flights before bearing start getting noisy:

YS50 125
OS50 65

Of course there is at least one design difference that could play in this comparison, the fact that the YS does NOT use muffler pressure.
But since I was using a fuel magnet on both setup, I was re-fueling
and clamping the muffler pressure after each fligths on the OS.

I'm not trying to put down OS, this is JUST my personal experience
again with pretty much everything else being the same except
the engine.

All things being equal, I would think the one with more balls could support more load.Heli-itis sufferer.

more balls...more load.
Sorry, couldn't resist. My mind is in the gutter today.

I do agree with that statement though.

more balls is supposed to make a difference for OS, but, I didnt see any difference in the time it took my 55 to eat up the rear bearings in it, and, the 55 has the webbing taken off the back of the crank, and I dont think that makes any difference either... although I have done the OS hyper50 mod by dremeling off the webbing in my hyper50 when I got the 55, after changing the rear brearings out, still testing to see if any difference yet in bearing wear.

Hi Paul, you may luck out and Koyo may have specs online. I wasted part of my work day LOL looking at SKF's spec sheets for roller bearings. They had Max load ratings and all sorts of interesting stuff.

There maybe something there that explains which is better.
