Something doesent feel right with this MX and I cant put my finger on whats wrong, everytime Ive tried to hover I have to keep bailing out before even getting a feel of what its even doing.

I would have said its the rudder out of trim, but considering the large stick movements involved with hovering I would not have thought rudder trim would realy matter all that much, I think the tail is creeping out in vertical climbs also.

It may be the wind or even a phsychological thing, Ive found with hovering trying to be careful does not work, its all or nothing.

I delibrately made this plane tail heavy and reletively light weight compared to my other su26 and was expecting it to hover much more easily, Im also thinking my 15/10 prop is to higher pitch for hovering but my su26 has a 15/10 also and I have no problem with that plane.

When I first go into a hover it seems to feel as though its in a state of weightlessness like a little foam plane and not hanging of the prop like the heavier plane it is, I think something is wrong but not sure what it is.

It could be all in my head, the MX2 looks much shorter than the SU26 makeing the wings apear bigger, it looks very stumpy with big long wings compared to the SU26 that looks much longer with shorter wings (even though the wings are the same size)

tryan, do you have any pictures of those mods? I havent opened the box yet as its still wrapped under our tree but i am getting anxious. This will be the largest plane in my fleet so I am excited to see how it flies in comparison to my gp giles 202 which i have had for like 6 years and has been awesome.I would rather be in a boat, with a drink on the rocks, then in the drink, with a boat on the rocks!

I got my christmas present early and its a camera, so now I can upload photos of my planes and hopefuly some video also.

This is my SU26 although its been crashed and repaired once already, I will upload my other planes if this works OK.

Its a shame its not got a nice wood prop on for the photo, but Im finding they just break so easily so I always end up going back to APC`s, all you have to do is catch them on your t/shirt and they split there so flimsy, Im not going to use them anymore even though do make the planes look better.

While the engine's running??

I'm a big fan of the APC products as well. Use 'em on all my birds.

You've mentioned that before. I'm gonna have to try one or two to see if I can sense a difference.

I think the only difference I seen in APC and Xoar on the same plane is the plywood is lighter and seemed like I got a few more RPM but nothing substantial. Just the APC looks terrible on the front of a scale plane the XOAR has a show finish its like something you would hang on the wall. I am a bit anal about how my planes look. I machine polish my aluminum spinners to a chrome finish always clean the bugs off the prop and wax the whole plane with meguar gold class automotive wax.

tower hobbies 18 x 8 APC Prop $18.99

abelhobby 18 x 8 laminated beech ply $12.38

Thanks for the photos tryan. Ill make sure to do those few mods. I agree, i am not a huge fan of the composite blades, the wood ones look so much better.I would rather be in a boat, with a drink on the rocks, then in the drink, with a boat on the rocks!

you better get some pontoons cause its going to rain and fill your basin.
These pics are from this morning. Yesterday same time the water was 3' higher.

Can't complain about having to wait a few days to fly my flippin' birds though -- lots of folks north of here in Mesquite, Nv and in California have had major flood damage or lost their homes altogether.

Appearance on scale birds is surely important for the diligent modeler, but as my birds clearly show, past a certain minimum standard of appearance I care only about performance first and durability second.

Looks like I'll be sticking with APC until some other manufacturer tops 'em.

Gimbalfan may want to think about a nice gas boat.

Oh and as for the XOAR props you really should give one a try my whole club uses XOAR now we were all APC users me included. They couldnt resist after seeing me use them.

great day for indoor flying snowing pretty good here.

Thought about it, would probably go electric if I ever built a prop boat.

How 'bout a sailboat? I suspect the keel on my Megatech Nirvana (hangs 13" below the waterline) would get stuck pretty damn quick in this pond though.

But being as how this is The Official Plank Thread, let's steer clear of further mentions of boats, eh?

My second favorite thing to do in RC. That flood basin's earthen dam is about 50' high. The prevailing wind in Vegas is from the SW about 80% of the year.

The center of the dam arc . . faces SW, so when wind speeds are just right (10-15), the ridge lift is downright uplifting.

This one has a Turnigy wood prop, but Im going to put an APC back on, even though the wood prop is nearly half the weight Im convinced its robbing the plane of power quite significantly, Il know soon but the other plane with the APC has much better performance, I have to agree though that APC props realy bring down the whole appearance of the plane.

Not all wood props are equal I think master airscrew is the worst.

I do have an APC nitro prop on my mini funtana with rimfire 10 motor its pretty heavy for the motor the inertia spins the prop well after you kill the throttle. But flies great I know I should be using a XOAR but I just dont take my electrics seriously.
