With Raptor 30/50 the pinion and main gear are sets, you can't mix/match them, the mesh will be wrong.

86/9 = 9.56
96/11 = 8.72
85/10 = 8.50

These are the only gear ratios that are available for the R30/50 from TT AFAIK.

I hear what you guys are saying, but that doesnt make sense with what the electric guys do (myself included)

I can fly my Swift on a 8 through 15 tooth pinion, all on the same drive gear.

my sons Trex head speed was too high, so he went from 15t down to 12t on the same main drive gear...

You can move the motor on an electric. What can you move on the 30/50/90?

On a Raptor 30/50 the pinion gear location is fixed - i.e. the pinion bearing boss is cast right into the plastic frame. There is no way to adjust the pinion mesh. It's part of what makes the Raptor so easy to build.

Raptor 60/90 is adjustable AFAIK but I haven't built one (helped with a few at the field, just not pinion mesh.)

I still have my wee raptor 30 V1 and still take the odd flight with it. Boy does it seem down in power compared to a titan or a raptor 60. But i wouldnt want to part with it ever!

If it doesnt move and its meant too... use WD 40. If it moves and its not meant too...use duct tape!

the body is uglier for sure!!! other than that you cant tell

flew mine a couple flights the other day. it has a little whirrr to it but everything is ok. The extra headspeed is just awesome, that thing does snap rolls like nobody's business, and a lot more vertical performance. I can punch it, pick up some level speed and do a nice big loop. looked it all over once I was done, everything seems fine

try the s@w 20% fuel don't know why or how come but it almost has much punch as a 50 raptor. I have a hard time boging the head. I've ran 30% alot and never made that power but that fuel is something else

There are some pretty quick ways to spot the difference between a V1 and a V2 Raptor 30/50

http://www.raptortechnique.com/v1_or_v2.htm

Also the V1 has longer canopy posts on the rear, the clutch bell is smooth on the outside (V2 and newer have grooves cut in the side of the bell) and the V1 R30 has smaller tail blade grips. If you have a V1 R30 upgrade that tail hub and grips to the latest Raptor parts.

....or buy a Quick UK metal tail hub & grip assembly.. OK it cost me £36 but for my 30V1 it's a great investment. FWIW I had no problems with the original V1 tail hub on my heli, right up until I swapped it out for the Quick one. The reason? The hole where the tail shaft goes through had elongated slightly and the hub was beginning to rock slightly so I guess pre-flight checks work sometimes! At least it didn't get to the exploding tail rotor stage

I am just getting back into it again after a 17 year break. I only have old tech. stuff to compare it to but so far I enjoy my Raptor 30. The only hickey I have found so far is none of my LHS seem to carry parts. Thank goodness I have not wrecked it yet. Notice, I said, YET......

If I fly it, I will crash it!

I still have a Raptor 30 and will NEVER get rid of it so long as parts are available.

On a related note, I've considered going 30 size on an SDX 50.

30's are great for about 90% of flying. Plus, you get the added benefit of lower fuel consumption and harder collective management.

Perfect for 3D training.

I think I am alone in liking the 30v1 canopy. Love it and my 30v2 sports a v1 canopy.

I also think the v1 canopy is easier to orient. The v2 canopy looks the same from many different angles. The little "beak" on the v1 canopy makes it easier to orient. There were many times with the v2 canopy where I wasn't sure if it was banked a little left or a little right when looking at it perfectly side on in certain light conditions.

This never happened to me with the v1 canopy.

Flame suit on. The 30v1 canopy rocks.

I started with a couple JR Ergos (.30 & .46). But I never had much luck with them. I then picked up a raptor .30v1 with webra .35 red head. What a great combo! It taught me to fly and never let me down. But I found after a few years parts were becoming scarce. So I sold it and picked up a titan .50. The titan is a pretty good heli. Sporting lots of fancy gadgets. But I missed the simplicity of my .30. So whats in the mail? A new raptor .30v2. I am looking forward to the low fuel consumption and it's smaller size.
What is the difference between the sport and pro arfs?
