How far is too far?
I was just looking over the events, shows & funflys forum to see where the events will be near my home. There are a few with in 2 hours driving time, then there are a few more with in 4 hours driving. I thought I would ask, how far would you drive for a fun-fly?

Depends on the fun fly.

A one day event?? 2 hours is pushing it.

But for a 2 or 3 day event? 4 hours, I could do.
Hell... I can fix that.
Uh oh..
Nope.

Furthest was 20 hours so far, usually I just fly to those events.

Average is about 10 hours.

I figured alot of people are willing to make the long haul to Indiana, I was thinking more of the average size fun-fly.

With exception to IRCHA and Joe Nall, we tend to set the limit to about 200mile radius from home.www.JustinJee.com

It all depends on how bad you want to go to the event. If it's just a gathering of local pilots, I wouldn't go more than an hour or 2. A larger gathering with pilots from several States plus a couple of pros, I'd open that up a bit depending on the time of year, and if I can get time off of work.

I made a 5k mile flight to get my heli and my wife in North Carolina (about 30 hours, plus layovers), a 24 hour "rest", followed by a 1k mile drive to get to the SRC in Mount Pleasant, TX (about 20 hours with rest stops). Luckily, I was going to the area anyway, so it made my travel to the event 45 minutes 1 way once I got to Texas. I only attended the event 1 day and hovered once at the event, but it was worth it for me to hang out with other heli pilots (I don't get to do that often, since my area is pretty dry of heli pilots, but picking up a bit), and to see the likes of Curtis Youngblood, Nick Maxwell, Bobby Watts, and Bert Kamerrer.

I still haven't made the trek to IRCHA, though.

My cutoff is about 2 1/2 hours away provided there are some decent flyers attending. It's a complex, costly, glow powered anti-gravity machine!

Driving
For me it's:

3 hours one way for 1 day events
6 hours one way for 2-3 day events
And for IRCHA I'll drive as long as it takes.

I am just starting to get back into the swing of event going. I will drive as far as my wife will let me for an event. I try to keep one day events with in 250-300 miles away.

Next event is in Gaston, CS and it is 300 miles away. It is grate just to sit around with other fliers and figure out what I am doing wrong.

Depends on which funfly it is, I have driven over 12 hours to go to one. Both Georgia and Louisiana have pretty fun big funflies, Larks and I forgot the name of the other...

Have any of ever been to funflys that when you left you said, "wont ever do that funfly again"?
Which is worse, ignorance or apathy? I don't know and I don't care!
