took it outside yest. didnt have a cam with me but worked as advertised even in beaufort 4 winds. The wind blew it around but it would alway return to where it was supposed to be when in GPS hold. I think in lower winds it will be quite stable. Very cool to watch something flying for several minutes without you even having your hands on the sticks

Seafaring guys might, but us landlubbers just use mph (or kph). Technically we probably should be using knots (nautical miles per hour) but few do.

I also just went and read about it and makes sense why the dutch use it as well. Pretty sure most of europe does as well.

I hadnt heard of it either until i moved here but in the weather forecasts its alway how wind speed or force is indicated and forecasted and since i didnt start flying until i moved here i never paid attention to the wind until then either. Now kmh/mph would mean nothing to me at all in regards to what amount would be flyable or not flyable weather.

I'm really enjoying the Beaufort Wind Chart, especially the descriptions, especially for Force 12.

Here it is in MPH.

I dont want to rain on any ones parade
I dont want to rain on any ones parade although this represents some of the biggest technological advances in the hobby for the decade but what happens if some disaffected person buys one (or more), loads them up with explosives and gives them a target some 5 miles away ?

The accuracy of this device is such that the target could be a window in building where an important person works.

Sadly the opportunity for terrorism using this technology is very real with this being now so simple and readily available.

This certainly is possible, but it's been possible for as long as RC specific GPS devices have been available. You can be sure that security specialists at nearly all levels of government & private sectors are aware of the potential misuses of such equipment, and precautions are no doubt being taken.

The average Joe Shmoe on the street won't be able to protect himself much, but that's been the case already, since long before this stuff was available.

DUCK!

I agree that the technology has been around for a while but this device brings the cost way down relatively and the knowledge to operate it seems to be pretty basic. Both unfortunately will cause this to be of interest to the disaffected.

Relax, ladies. There is a 512 meter radius limit on the GPS functionality.
and the knowledge to operate it seems to be pretty basic
I won't take that personally but I would hardly call the knowledge needed to build and configure such a thing "basic".

This is by far the most advanced thing i have ever built (and im no newcomer to RC) and without the years of experience with RC, programming, and some electronics experience i wouldnt have had a chance of getting this thing in the air let alone getting it safely back on the ground again.

All the technology for these kinds of things has been around for ages... a person intent on doing someone harm will find a way to do so regardless of cost, obscurity, or any other hurdle.

Im sure that when firearms became affordable and available to the general public people said the same sorts of things about them.

Technology is not the problem. People are.
