I don't see how u guys can say they were assemblers. They built there own frames, bars, tanks, exhaust, seats. Makes me think that you guys claiming they were only assemblers have never even seen the show.

Jesse James is a builder. These guys are just assemblers, for the most part. They might weld some parts together, however, they aren't using an english wheel to make a tank or fender!

Sorry to see that one go. I enjoyed watching it. They looked like professionals to me. Heck, they fabricated most everything on site with the custom bikes.

I don't think anyone is claiming they're stupid.

We just don't think they are true bike builders.

I don't think the OCC crew would stand an ice cube's chance in hell in a biker build off!

Agree, its all smoke and mirrors, OCC is is a show but how much of a chopper do they really build Indian Larry, Jesse, along with alot of others not shown on T.V are far more "from the ground up" builders and will never be acknowlaged by the masses. I guess it's entertainment if enough people enjoy the show but for me it became a joke after awhile. Go easy on me--- you might hurt my feelings if you disagree

Well I guess none of us are true heli builders then.

All the shows I have watched they start the mockup on a frame jig. I have also watched them make lots of tanks from scratch.
Thier bikes are based on a theme and more unique then anything else out there(wierd looking to me). You are completely wrong. I challenge anyone to build a copy of one of thier bikes. You can just buy all the parts in a catalogue and "assemble it yourself"

From a manufacturing magazine article-"Teutul’s three sons all work in either his steel business or bike shop. Danny, 27, is the general manager of Orange County Ironworks, Paul Jr., 29, is chief designer and fabricator at Orange County Choppers, while Michael, 25, answers phones and orders parts at OCC.

“The customers first talk to salesman Mike Burkhouse about exactly what it is that they want, whether it is a theme bike or just a tricked-out chopper,” explains Ron Salsbury, director of operations at OCC. “Then our resident graphic artist, Jason Pohl, starts the design process. He draws it, which takes him a couple of days. The customer makes changes or approves. The frame is outsourced to a fabricator who makes the bike according to Jason’s drawing. This takes around a week.”

OCC did not, until recently, have in-house manufacturing machinery, so the shop had to outsource fabrication of most components, from kickstands to wheels, to other chopper shops, a process they called grueling. With the acquisition of Adobe software and specialized milling machines, OCC can now custom-manufacture more parts on-site, faster and with more creative control over the end product. Each chopper is painstakingly designed to meet the customer’s exact specifications with 65 percent of the manufacturing taking place in-house. In addition to the capital spent on design software, over $100,000 was spent on a Haas Automation CNC machine, an investment they say is priceless. "

They start with factory tanks a lot that they cut apart. They farm out frames, seats, lights, controls, and wheels. The motors and trans come built. They make pipes, gas tanks (rarely),bars, fenders(cut down from catalog stuff),wire the bike(wow!),and give it to their painter.Yup,artists alright.

Build or bust showed how many guys can build nice bikes. It was a show on SPEED where the bike came preorderd with fabwork still needed, and you could keep it if you finished in a week and started the bike before time was up.They had to lace spoked wheels by hand on every bike as well.

Paulie and Mikey are typical boss's kids.Waaaa quit making me work,I'm royalty!
