i thought of the idea comming back from watching the super bowl and thought it might be cool.
is this even possible?
it would eventualy work enought to over-rev the head and engine and what not, but for those demanding manuvers you could put a switch on it so if your just hovering you could turn it off and if you were doing....oh say fast tic-tocks it could be a huge help.

hows that sound? impossible? probebal?

I'm going to guess that there hasn't been much progress with that...

It was put on youtube in April of last year and nothing since...

Certainly a cool project though...

There is or use to be a company making superchargers for RC engines.

Best 'turbocharger' I've found for nitro engines is to convert 'em to electric.

why on earth would you stick a turbocharger on a nitro motor? make it burn fuel even faster? eight minutes too much airtime for one tank?

are you talking about turbocharger or supercharger?

On both, the impellers at that small size can't pump enough air efficiently to make a difference. In fact, all the superchargers are really doing is robbing your engine of power. I also don't believe the exhaust of a nitro engine would contain enough latent power to drive a turbo.

not to mention that exhaust flow on a nitro is not constant, it does backflow a little on each stroke.

well you would get a pretty exciting flight out of it, but you would need a new engine. lol

i don't thing you can put a turbo because at one point the intake and exaust are both open at the same time so you would not get any boost but if we ran 4 strokes where each cycle is seperate then yes we could build boost and there for make more power. you need the intake to push out the exaust

RB Innovations, Check it out...totally insanly cool, but would need to be modified to fit a heli heat sink head,,,,how about just having thrust rockets mounted to the skids???

For the ones that keep thinking is cool or that it works( here in bold bigger letters)
He tried to run the nitro engine as rich as possible (to keep it cool) and still nuked the insides. As Squirrelrod says towards the end of the second video, he paid roughly $150 for the supercharger and now would have to pay another $150 or so to get a new engine.
Tell me, do you think the idea of a supercharger is worth the money, worth trying? It didn't work for Squirrelrod, but I'm sure someone out there will want to prove it can work. Not me. I've got a lot less expensive ways to ruin a good nitro engine.

you would have to have an engine built around the turbo. when i explain a turbo to people i tell them like this. a turbo is compressing air so more will fit into the combustion chamber. the saying no replacement for displacement comes from the fact that bigger engines have more room for air where as a small engine dose not so boost packs more air in the combustion chamber. so it is like filling up a trash can with cans, and then doing the same thing to the same size trash can but this time you crunch up the cans (like the turbo compressing the air) you will get way more in there with the same size can. when boosting a glow engine a lot of things would have to change for it to run right. think of your engines running lean just from an air leak, now imagine trying to truly boost a glow engine with compressed air

i think what people have done is blown air into the carb with a sc, but not truly compressed air and put it into the engine as boost.

you aint crashin you aint learnin

Thare two stroke motors. Thats what the back pressure is for. It has a huge afect on the Motocroos bikes. Besides isnt both the intake and exaust open at the same time at botom dead center?

So then you will lose all your back presure with the turbo. It doesnt sound logical.
