hello

i was wondering if anyone has tried out the 8 tooth pinon on their Swift. i just got it recently.

i have been using the 9t pinion, and currently am lowering my HS by lowering the throttle curve - which i prefer not to use

any way, i bought the 8T pinion, which according to my calculation would give me the desired head speed without lowering my throttle curve.

but as i am looking at the pinion, it seems quite fragile (specially at the low points - please refer to attached photo). i am not a metallurgist, is my concern unfounded? has anyone broken these 8t pinions while flying? i am talking specifically about the 8t, the 9t, 10t, etc all seem fine.

if anyone has had experience with these 8t pinion - i would really appreciate your feedback, thought, etc.

thanks, khan

That is the reason 2 of my Swifts have Z30A-800 motors. Way more pinion choice/headspeed choice.

Greybird, i still do have one TonicX 800kv motor left (i sold two others recently). but i did like the scorpion 4020-910's performance a bit better (even with the throttle curve tuned down on the 10T)

going back to the topic, is the 8T strong enough?

What head speeds are you trying to achieve?

I would like to keep it close to 2000, with 90%+ on throttle curve. If it is a bit lower, then it is fine. Currently my HS is around 2200 at 80% with 9t.

I busted two 8 tooth pinions!

With my old swift 550 600+ motor 8s.

I was flying 2300 on the head for 3D, and they don't last at all.
I can see if your easy on the machine and flying scale it would be OK.

The pinion seem to break every time I did a power demanding maneuver.

The 8T pinion is offered in order to set-up for LOW rotor speed (low power) flight.

They will not be able to handle the amount of power required for the rigors of higher 3D head speeds.

So if you are planning to use it for head speeds of 1500 to 1700 you should be fine.

No doubt about it, they certainly will not last if you use it for stepping down a system to a 2300 rotor speed!!!

The power transfer required for a 2300 rotor speed is more then 50% greater then that for a 1700 head speed. That is why if one uses the same battery pack, he will get much longer flights from a 1700 rotor speed then from a 2300 rotor speed.
