Hi guys, if you grab your tail blades in one hand and the main head in the other, how much play do you have between them. I have considerable play. My problem is that the hole in the autohub and the main shaft is quite a bit bigger than the 3m bolt. The reason I ask is that I cant get my 770 jr gyro and 8900g servo combo to hold solid.
Ive built a few helis and used the 770gyro with no problems before.
I have purchased the TT Titan se 3.5m autohub bolt so as to slightly enlarge the hole to take the larger bolt to eliminate this unwanted play that may be causing this gyro not to lock solid.

Anyone found the same, too much play between head and tail? Is this an issue that I should be worried about......what do you think.

cheers Robert

All tt setup will have some play... But not enough to mess with the gyro.

Unlike the servo (bi-directional) where a backlash can be a problem, unidirectional gear train has relatively no effect on performance since they are always under load and engaged.

But increasing slop means there is a wear somewhere. If you feel the slop getting larger, then inspect the teeth and replace worn out parts.

Robert mine is exactly the same, as is my Vibe 50 & my T600N used to have it also. Its completly normal, even T700's have it. Its nothing to worry about & wont cause your tail issues.

My tail is holding perfect with the Spartan & BLS251 im running.

Where is your gyro mounted? In the standard mount? What tape are you using? I think you have something else going on here so lets try & fix that

Thanks for the comments guys, Ive now moved the gyro to the rear, it just fits without touching the side frames. The situation has improved greatly with tail holding a lot better, but still can be improved. Using futaba gyro tape(1 piece). Maybe up the front the vibration was more of a problem to the gyro. Heli looks really good in flight with no noticable vibration problems. Os 55 engine has high needle at about 1 1/4 turns, pulling lots of power. Anyway tail holding is alot better and will look at engine tuning a bit more.

thanks again

Good to hear your getting somewhere with it Rob.

Are you sure the gyro wont be touching the sides? My Spartan was too close for comfort so I didnt mount it there.

What fuel & pipe are you using? That high needle setting might possibly be on the lean side.

I do run the 55 but with the Funtech 55 pipe (best pipe on the market IMO). I woud have to check my needles but in sure im around 1 1/2 turns or so. I did a bit of playing around with the tuning on Tuesday so I am not sure what I ended up with.

In regards to tuning; did you watch the first Smacktalk video? Berts tuning methods are the best I have used & work very well. Well worth watching.

I will look at needles tonight & let you know.
