It was suggested to me that the SK 360 might not be up to the task of hard 3D (which I don't do yet). I'm in the market for a controller for my Vibe 90 and want to minimize the bucks spent (so no Mikado!). Any thoughts?

Align 3G flies very well for the money. Not quite as refined as the V-Bar(one shouldn't expect it to be), but I'd say it has a closer feel to a flybar than the V-Bar, and that may or may not be preferable depending on what you like. There really aren't many other systems I'd consider worthwhile at the moment, and I have an SK360.

I have both a E550 and E620 with a SK360 and they are excellent for 3D. I fly the E550 with a 8s LiPo and the E620 with 10s LiPo (both with Scorpion motors) and they are both excellent for hard 3D. You due need a real good tail gyro and servo. I have a Spartan gyro and BLS251 servo on both. Something in the GY401 class is ok for sport flying but not 3D.

They are very easy to set up for sport flying and basic 3D. If you fly serious 3D like piro-flips then you need fast servos (I use BLS451 on 6V) and spend some time tuning the SK360. You need to increase the damping quite a bit but you need good servos to make it hold steady. If you don’t due piro-flips then you don’t have to worry about that and any good quality servos on the CCPM will be ok.

I have flown both 90 degree and 140 degree setups and with the SK360 you can’t tell any difference so it’s not worth the money to upgrade.

I plan on getting a SK720 when they come out next month and see how that compares to my current setup.

Thanks. I really do want the SK 360 as it's priced right, but I needed some info from someone that uses one. The comment I got about the SK 360 came from someone who doesn't fly one. So this is good info. My Vibe 90 has 8717's on the cyclic and GY611/BLS251 on the tail so life should be fine. Thanks again.

I have 3 SK-360s here. They work really well and are very easy to set up. With the Spartan gyro, the SK works very nice on pretty much any move except piro maneuvers.

If you don't already have a tail gyro, I would just go ahead and invest in a 3 axis gyro since the SK + Spartan is pretty much the same as the cost of a 3 axis gyro.

Ping JR-ric here on the board.
He has flown my SK360 equipped T700N's and Vibe 50's and he does some pretty aggressive 3D. His immediate reaction to flying one was to want one...

It flies as hard as you want it, I setup one for me and one for my buddy who flies like crazy, no issues however we both used G611s and 8717 servos so cant comment on how they work with others.
The only reason we dont use them now is going to 3 axis fbl which Skookum doesnt have yet.
btw we used our own modded heads following instructions found here on this site..worked well for the cost of a mixing base at less than $20
