Excellent. In many minds the P-51D is the finest warbird ever produced, and what a great story to go with it.

Thanks for that link.

I live in Boulder Colorado and had the honor of meeting Col Bill Bower, who now resides in Boulder. Col Bower was the pilot of the 12th B-25 to lift off the carrier in the Doolittle Raid. Our club has had the honor of having him attend both our meetings and field activity a number of times.

As I watched the video, my attention quickly turned to Lt Brooks. His actions and words reminded me of Col Bower. Nowhere in the video do you see a man boastful of his accomplishments, only a man thankful for his family and friends.

Although the P-51 the B-25 and many other WWII aircraft are things of beauty, in the serene environment seen in the film I cannot imagine the actual experience that these pilots went through in time of war. Their missions were not beautiful scenic flights over the countryside but hard fought act of war for which many never returned.

The Doolittle Raiders had to take off early, knowing that they would not have enough fuel to reach their safe destination. But each crew did take and perform their mission. Their fate was then to bail out of a sputtering bomber in the dark of the night over enemy occupied territory. But they did it.

The planes are beautiful, but it is the men that flew them that made them historic.

Thank you Lt Brooks, Col Bower and all the rest of our often forgotten hero’s.

One of the best documentary films I've ever seen! My Mom had six brothers, four that served in WWII. Two were B-24 pilots, one a B-25 pilot, and one a flight engineer on a B-29. And like Jim Brooks in this film they never really talked about it. I wish now I had pried a little harder to hear more of their stories.

Thanks for finding this Mark.
