it seems like the point is being missed here, without more pitch, more headspeed or a higher pinion, a motor with the same kv will almost exactly the same perfromance until it is pushed hard. you could hover the trex 500 on a brushed motor with 1600kv. Its only when you push it harder you would notice the difference.

Even if you retained the same pinion you might see a difference in performance. One motor rated at 1600KV by one manufacture compared to a different manufacture may vary based on the accuracy of each companies rating. Also efficiency of each motor will also come into play with different manufacturers. The real test will be under heavy load.. which one can maintain a more constant RPM based on a correct setup.

Headspeed is deffinatly higher on the 1600 Scorpion compared to the stock motor. If you want silly power go for the 1400 Scorpion and a 15T pinion. If you want INSANE gear stripping power, put the Align 600 1650kv in there with a 13T pinion, you will need to trim off about 1mm from the base plate to get the motor through but only takes 2 mins with a sharp knife or Dremel, only 3 min flight times but WOW!

I think the Scorpion 1600 with 14T is crazy powerful...

Watch at YouTube

I flew a Logo 400 with the set up you mentioned and it was pretty powerful too!

How high of head speed are you all looking for?

At 2800 it is a very responsive helicopter and I'm allowing a little overhead for the governor to maintain the rpm during hard cyclic/collective usage. With a flat 100% curve you would have a hs of 2912 with no overhead during maneuvers.

I'm still probably going to try the 14T which should give a 3000 governed hs with headroom and a 100% flat curve hs of 3136.
