Hi all, I'm hoping someone may have some experience to help me fix my mcx 300. Great little bird for the living room, but it's developed a characteristic that has me baffled and frustrated.

It will fly around normally and then start to turn right, this can be corrected with left rudder, but the rate of turn to the left gets very sluggish. After a few seconds it will constantly turn right, application of left rudder makes it spin faster to the right. Application of right rudder makes it turn right extremely quickly !

Disconnecting and reconnecting the battery seems to resolve the problem for a while. When the problem show's itself and I throttle up with full left or right stick the appropriate rotor seems to start first, but left rudder seems a little less enthusiastic. I've tried to check all is straight and loose, and it flies fine until the dreaded turn starts.

I'm hoping it isn't the 3 in 1, but it's about the only thing I can think would cause this in mid flight.

All ideas and suggestions very welcome !

Thanks, Stu

I had a similar pob with my mCX. It turned out to be the motors. Flights started out ok then would start to spin (left on mine). After a while it wouldn't even get off the ground. I replaced both motors and everything went back to normal.

My crashes are cooler than your flying! ;^)

Thanks guys. I have 4 batteries of different ages, I'll have to check and see if it's related to any of them.

I did replace the left hand motor, which is the one that would cause it to turn right if it was failing, in case it had a problem, but that may still be related.

Time to do some more structured testing !

usualy its best to replace both motors at the same time. if they are not going the same speed you will have some problems

After stripping the machine down I couldn't find anything obviously wrong or bent. I added up the cost of parts to do a 'what if' replacement strategy and just bought a new heli !

So, the new one flies fine, so tx and batteries don't seem to have an effect. Double checked shafts and gears on the problem machine, seem straight and free, no binding issues. I swapped the two motors to see if the problem would follow. So, if there was a problem motor I would expect that since it's now driving a different shaft the rotation would be in the opposite direction. No such luck, still turns right uncontrollably after a few seconds. So, there's either something in the drive system that's binding up, or, more likely I believe, either the gyro or one of the speed controllers is faulty on the board

I think I'll just use the problem heli as a parts source as the cost of changing the board, if it's faulty, doesn't make sense given the price of a new one.
