I was allowed the day off college today, due to it being near the end of the course.

I thought great, I will charge up some packs and get some flights in today.

I go over to the public field next to my house. As I walk up I notice two dog walkers, nothing unusual there so I wait for them to move over or finish, but one woman decided not to move, but instead continued to throw the dog's ball in front of me, this is the same woman who was trying to throw the ball at our helis as I was flying with my friends before. I wait there still patiently for longer, I noticed that the other dog walker had left so I went to the other side of the field.

As I was flying my first pack I could hear the dogs and thrown ball getting closer, I land it and then she says do you have permission to fly here? I said it's a public field. She said some rubbish about speaking to the local council (you can tell she didn't), I once again said it's a public field and that all people are entitled to use it.

(I have been using the field electric flight only for two years and she is the first one to complain)

This is while she is throwing the ball next to my now landed helicopter.

I said something along the lines of why are you throwing the ball next to my helicopter. No clear answer was given in return.

She was worried about the helicopter hitting her dogs. That's fine and all that, but not only do I always fly above a humans head height but I also never fly unless the field is clear where I'm flying. She said what happens if it looses control, I said that is very unlikely but the failsafe will cut all throttle.

I then said I also have insurance in case anything happens. She then rudely said well I have insurance for my dogs too. I said great, so that makes it fine to do what you're doing then does it?

(I should have said what happens if your dog looses control...)

She says something along the line of yes so I said if it hits it that it is criminal damage, and I will phone the police (disregard for property), she said if that hits my dog that is criminal damage.

I said if you're worried about your dogs why didn't you just talk to me. (Instead of being extremely rude like she was) I said I would be happy to wait until you are finished walking your dogs.

She then rudely replied why don't you just not fly here. I said I would but I can't because I don't have a car (I can't afford and I am finding it very hard to drive).

After she was more rude I said you disgust me (I don't like being rude but this was too much), then packed up my stuff, after just one flight. Now I have two more lipos I have to discharge.

This just winds me up no end. A few minutes of my day to enjoy my hobby and I can't have that. On top of a already bad day just makes me so upset and wound up.

I have met a few rude people in my life and this is one of the ones at the top of the list for sure.

It's not just the money that my helicopters are worth but also all the time and dedication I put into them.

Sorry for the long rant, I just need to get this off my chest.

Thanks,

Laurence

Where I live we're not allowed to fly anything remote controlled at any of the public parks. Sounds like she was pretty rude, does sound like she was there first though, no?

There are no signs or anything up stating that.

She was there first, hence why I waited until she was done. She walked off the field and then back on again during the time while I was flying (behind me so I couldn't see).

Thanks man, that is very true! Yes, that's right I too am paying for that park. I would indeed just fly on but I do not want to risk my helis just because of one person.

It's a no win situation really, if they weren't such delicate machines I would have stayed!

Maybe next time I see her I should go back, put the helis down and get out my nitro truggy I hardly use and chase her. Haha...

But that's not really like me to do at all.....

Where I live dogs are suppose to be on leashes unless you are in an enclosed dog specific park. It sounds like her dog was not on a leash. So technically if she was here, she would be in the wrong and could face a ticket for leash law infraction.

As much as I like to fly in the park next to my house I have finally given up flying there due just plain stupid people. I am still amazed how peole will walk up to a helicopter hovering in the air, instead of walking up to me.

So long and thanks for all the fish!

That just sucks. You don't have a lot of options because you are doing the more dangerous of the activities. You can always research the leash laws, and if she is in violation you can tell her you are calling the police because you feel threatened by her unleashed dogs. If there is no leash law, there is little you can do. You will never win an argument with someone like that.

They have tiny little lives governed by tiny little brains. You might as well be arguing with a stump. I also wouldn't be in a big hurry to volunteer info about insurance. Her dog could get hurt in an unrelated incident and she could try to claim it was your helicopter that did it. Without witnesses it would be her word against yours. Some people see insurance claims as the lottery.

Word of advice, if she is there when you want to fly, don't fly. She can't be there all the time...

There is no way I would have left, as for the ball, I would have took and kept it. No way I would have let ANYBODY throw somthing at my helicopter. Sounds like a lady that needs to get laid

If you only have to bend over once to pick it up it's a good landing.

You don't have a lot of options because you are doing the more dangerous of the activities
that is EXTREMELY debatable far more people have been killed or injured by well mannered dogs then rc helicopters i woulda have said if you dont get out of here im calling the cops because your dog bit my foot then i would proceed to jab a stick into my leg till it bled saying you dont wanna mess with me that woulda got rid of her for good also if she continued to be a little bitch i would find another more clever way to get back at her

example... find where she parks her car and then wait till she leaves hop underneath and put a small slice int he fuel line with a razor blade about 1 inch long and along the line not across it .. she will lose so much gas when the peddle is pressed then when stopped the negative pressure in the tank will stop the leak.. she wont find out for years and it will cost her stupid ass hundreds of dollars thats a much better way to get even with people like this i will neither confirm nor deny i have done this several times to douchbags i have encountered during my life. also a small rock in the tire valve then tighten the cap again and it will lose air over time do it at night and they will have a flat in the morning also will neither confirm or deny i did this dont get mad..get even Muahaahaahhahhahahah

This story reminded me of a little incident my wife had while back riding bikes with my son. They were on a typical bike ride heading down the sidewalk. Well he likes to get ahead sometimes, then he will stop and wait for us to catch up. Well this time he gets about 10 yards from this old hag walking her dogs and he stops. Mind you he is coming up from behind, and she is continuing to move forward. Well she stops turns around, and starts walking towards him yelling at him how rude he is, not sharing the sidewalk, and how does not have any manners and that she walking her dogs and we should watch out for them. (he is 5 years old at the time)Meanwhile my wife is catching up, and hearing the whole thing.
Well my wife is not one you normally would want to mess with, but messing with the little guy takes it to the next level. A very scary level. Don't mess with the cubs, or mamma bear will unleash the fury of a thousand suns. I wasn't there to see this but I can only imagine it was this bad if not worse.
He had done nothing wrong, believe me, if he had he would have been dealt with by my wife. This lady went out of her way to turn around, and yell at him most unexpectedly, and completely unwarranted. So my wife calmly asks what the problem is, and WHY she is talking to our son in this manner. The old hag goes off the deep end stating that little boys on bikes scare her dogs and how rude he is to stop behind them no matter the distance. Really? I had no idea there was a no stopping on the sidewalk policy in effect! My wife told her that if there was a problem that she could address her and not our 5 year old. Well, crazy pants couldn't just leave well enough alone and proceeded to berate and attack our parenting skills, and the rudeness of our child etc. My wife then told our son to go on up ahead a bit and mommy would catch up. She wanted to see him but get him out of earshot of the severe tongue lashing that was about to erupt. My wife told this woman that if she EVER saw her speak to my son again it would be that last thing that she ever spoke. (Dramatic I know) Then the lady started screaming, "Get away from me! I am not a lesbian! Why are you trying to pick me up!" OK, freak! My wife told her that if she was a lesbian that the last thing she would be trolling for is a dried up ball busting bitter old hag in cut off pink sweat pants, and that she seeks out better azz than that, but she does know someone that might just be interested in the nasty unkempt type. My wife then went on to tell her that she will find out where she lives and see where she sleeps and every day that goes by she will have to wonder if to day will be the day that she comes around to torment her life and her dogs. This lady was seriously peeing in her pants by this point I have no doubt. My wife is psycho, I have first hand knowledge, and she will always win in a battle of the wits and wills. The old bags' final retort was to tell her that she will pray for her. To which my wife quickly replied, "Please, don't bother. I do not want someone like you praying for me because clearly you worship a god that encourages the torment of small children because you think that you can." She also told her that she has a direct connection with the devil himself so she better watch her back.

Yep, my wife is crazy, but that's why I love her. She takes sh*t from NO ONE. Ever. What I wouldn't have given to been there to see it. The really sad part is all that woman had to do when my wife approached her was to apologize to her and my son and say that she was having a bad day or something.

Curious
Please let us know on what you find with leash laws. Some people just like drama, also check on the rules for RC at that park. Most likely it is not addressed. Being that you are flying a lethal toy, until you have it sorted out I would be the bigger man. Yeah sure you might be in the right but you would feel like ass if your hurt a dog, he is kinda innocent in this whole thing. Now if the dog threw the ball and she chashed it and got hit well...

Here you can not fly or run anything rc in any city park nor can any dog cat or other animal be off a leash. Pretty simple here on that and I myself like it that way. Dont have to put up with dumb fools that go out and just buy a stupid blade and crash it into me and I dont have to put up with loose dogs makes for a nice day at the park fo me. If your allowed to fly there then just be respectful and dont be a ass towards here.
That way she cant go to the council and say he was rude cussed me etc without it being a lie. I would go to the council myself though if I was u and find out if your allowed to fly there and if they say yes ask for a written permission slip for it then you can show her and tell he to mind her own business.

I hate to be the one to say this, but if we are not careful of how we deal with these situations, we will be the next hated and banned thing like skateboarders. People have been walking dogs forever. There is no way we can win against dog owners in pissing contests, even if we all know dogs can be more dangerous than an RC helicopter. For the younger guys here, keep mouthing off and saying rude crap to people and see how much like the skateboarders we end up being treated like.

I used to skateboard when I was a teen in the 80's, and the outward revulsion and disrespect that was demonstrated to me was immeasurable. I wasn't even doing anything to public property. I was just rolling down the sidewalk getting from point A to point B, and I still had to endure the crap because of the other kids destroying public property and being a bunch of smartass punks.

You can't change the mind of the ignorant. Always keep that in mind when you have some shrieking harpy yelling at you in a park. Some woman with a dog will always think she has more rights than you, because people have walked dogs forever, flying helicopters in parks is a more recent thing. To them, they see no reason for you to be doing what you are doing, especially compared to their precious dog. To these people, their dog is their kid, and they get real stupid real quick because of it.

Like I said, find out the laws, and go from there.
