Soldiers survived!!

This is one of the new "hardened" MRAP vehicles that was hit by a 500 lb bomb (IED). The vehicle was totally destroyed, but EVERYONE IN THE VEHICLE WALKED AWAY.

Note the unusual construction of the bottom of the hardened Pathfinder APC. Note the bottom looks like the hull of a ship. The blast picked up the truck and turned it around! The driver got some broken ribs (see the photo of the steering wheel), but that's it. Everyone walked away from a 500 lb explosion directly beneath their vehicle.

WOW! The towel-headed bastards will have to go to 1000lb now.. If we're lucky we can catch them trying to lug that size of IED around and gunship their asses

When I was running the redeployment marshalling yard in Kuwait in 07-08 I saw a few of those come back all kinds of messed up. The only casualty I knew of was when one rolled over and crushed the gunner up top. They drive pretty well, but they are kinda scary to drive up on to a tractor trailer due to fact you can't really see the wheels that well from the driver seat.

I helped design a 6-speed transmission for a vehicle like that. The vehicle builder did not win the contract, so they never built more than two prototype vehicles. I thought they were pretty cool.

It also had a V-shaped hull which helped diffuse the energy of the explosion and prevented the vehicle from flipping over.

Glad to see the results of this field test come back with positive results!

I remember how this happened. Evidently the convoy was rolling north from Kuwait and had crossed into Iraq. From what I understand once you cross into Iraq its game on. I know nothing like happens south.

The IED literally lifted the vehicle up off the ground and spun it 180 degrees.

MRAP's are nice but it sucks to be a gunner in one. They are made better than a tank when it comes to bombs.
