Still love my Stratus.
Just installed Vbar on this thing and can't wait to try it.
Sadly the weather is bad right now. Snow and wind. And cold of course

After talking to Mr.Mel here on RR I used the QuickUK TT Raptor grips and Mikado swashdriver. It's easy to make the Stratus head ready for fbl

Please keep us updated on how it went.

Did you use the stock spindle?
Was there any extra spacers needed for the grips/spindle area?

The Tempest head is definitely good for FBL conversion. I was able to make mine FBL using 100% stock parts (except for the Mikado 10mm swash driver)

Dr Phil,

I used the same grips on my FBL Ion-x and they worked great.

I used the MA double-balls (from the original grips) on the Raptor grips and use the outside ball. This gives perfect vertical alignment (=zero phasing).

Also, looks like you are missing a bottom main blade washer on the main grip on left side of your picture.

Like MrMel said, it's a good idea to bring your 3 cyclic servo arms in a few mm to improve servo resolution. I took mine from 19.5mm to 15mm.

Good luck and best cheers,
TomC

I should have mentioned a couple of things regarding my setup. Thanks for reminding me, Tom C!

I also used the MA balls on the Raptor grips.
To get good geometry for the Vbar (10-11 degrees cyclic with Cyclic Ring setting at 70) I found that 12mm distance was good for servo resolution on the Stratus BW version.
Also, looks like you are missing a bottom main blade washer on the main grip on left side of your picture.
It's there. But for some reason it is invisible in the picture because of shadow I guess .Thanks anyway

Ive got this head made from these parts:

http://www.quickuk.eu/products/340/...ps_sseh-08.html

and this:

http://www.quickuk.eu/products/337/...ock_ssh-02.html

I used it on a Razor 600 Flybarless heli with good success.
Can anyone see any problems if I transfer it to a Stratus?
It is a quickuk head for a Sceadue, which is 50 size, but it sure looks strong enough to be used in a 90, can anybody see any problems?

Thanks

Maybe call QuickUK and ask them. One problem I see is that you will only have 4M blade bolts. Really need 5M on a 90 imho.

cheers,

Had the first flights with my flybarless Stratus BW today.
Unbelievable power and response on this bird!
Feels like I have a much more powerful engine, and the cyclic is insane

Very nice looking Stratus!!

How did you find the tail? Do you find it more locked in now than when you were using the traditional gyro setup?

Great looking Stratus,
Congratulations on the mod, I hope to experience F.B.L. in the future. Seems like a lot of fliers are going that direction. I can understand why.

Darkplague, the tail works perfectly.
I replaced a Gy611/BLS251 that did work great, and the tail is at least as good.
Only had to speed up the piro rate from the default setting.
The tail feels locked in in manouvers as quick backwards hurricane and consistent in manouvers like chaos.

Which belcranks are you using? The HR/BW ones or standard ones?

That's interesting. I would like to see your vbar file if you don't mind. I ask because the high ratio BW bellcranks are like 2:1. That would make the geometry for vbar terrible.

You know, studying Dr. Phil's picture in post one, it occurs to me that with a well designed head block and a more efficient swash driver, you could shorten the main mast at least 25mm or more. Looking at the picture there is a lot of head block dedicated to space for the flybar and the main mast is long enough to accommodate a moving washout assembly. Lacking these the head could be dropped 25 to 50mm closer to the CG. That can only be a good thing right?... No matter how you fly....
