I am thinking the mistake I made was not tightening the pinion down really hard. I installed the pinion without over-tightening. It seems that the pinion needs to be very tight in bell, unless you will notice the wobble.

kogibankole,

I'm glad you got it resolved. Mine was in tight and loctited in from the factory. No change when I tried to press the bearing over the bell. It did seem to improve somewhat when I tried to press the bearing into the block. I wasn't really able to press it into the block properly with the bell attached. It is probably just the bearing seating in the block. I sent it in on Friday, so I hope to hear next week. Paul Pan at Century has been very helpful in responding and getting the two missing parts out to me.

Good luck with you continuing build.

Tom

I doubt it could be the bearing seating at fault.

If you ever press a bearing in and you don't get it in square, you will notice the drag/notchiness right away, due to the balls rubbing against the inside of the bearing. At least that's what ive noticed.

Before you sent the stuff back to Paul, what was the condition of the bearings itself? was it free?

The bearings are all brand new and they were very smooth. No notchiness at all. Did they just replace the bearing for you or just reassemble what you sent? Looking forward to getting mine back so I can finish my Preddy.

Hi,

I just wanted to update the post with the results that Century found. They swapped out the bell and put in a new lower bearing, put the original pinion in and it was still out. They then replaced the pinion and that was the fix.

Thank you to Paul at Century for his help in resolving this. For any issues I have had with this heli Paul has been great with customer service and the turn-around has been fantastic. Also they are sending out a new tail casing to fix the miss-molded one. I will be sending mine back with a Century UPS label so they can inspect it to see what happened in the molding process.

Can't wait to get back to the build!

Thanks,

Tom
