Does anyone know how to tune a .28 nitro car engine? Is it the same as a plane engine where you hold it on full throttle and slowly screw the mixture screw in till it peaks?

Cant really do that, it would really wear out the clutch trying to turn the wheels, similarly, lifting the wheels off the ground would not simulate real world road conditions. I just drive it around in a circle noting the engine noise and go from there.

You have to make wide open throttle passes.Find a nice stright open parking When you floor it going away count 5 secs and let off then do the same comming back then check the temp. You have to do it that way no matter what so you tune it for max performance.

Lets say you tune it this way, blip the throttle a few times then adjust the needle. When you beat on it tuning it like this the motor will over heat because its not tuned for WOT.It "has" to be tuned for WOT passes to set the max temps.Heres my LOSI LST ,sold and missed .Watch the power she makes about half way through the video. This was the first time running that truck in 2 years, ive never blown, leaned out or had a lean run tunning my motors like this.

You tune the engine by Temperature,
Run the car for 3-4 laps to get up to temp, then use a heatgun to measure the head temp. Lean it out such that you keep it below 200'F.
Adjust it by about 1/8 of a turn, run a few more laps & test the temp again.

Where should you measure the temp as car engines have such a large heat sink?

Aim at the plug, holding it 1/4 inch or so above the heatsink.
The important thing is to do it the same each time.
