So my flying buddy chuck is trying to get the new firmware working on his castle creations 85HV lined out in govornor mode so is switching from normal through idleups 1 and 2 when he notices that the heli just won't go above about 70% throttle (idleups set around 85%) so thinking he was back in normal he "cuts throttle" by lowering his collective assuming that the motor would shut off at bottom stick. The problem was that he was still in idle up one so the negative collective pressed the heli into the ground fairly hard causing the gear to break on both sides at the frame. The negative pitch then sucked the grear/skids up into the paddles/blades causing them to go flying at a high rate of speed in my direction. After I finished running the other way I noticed chuck was still flying the bird so I took some picks.
We didn't want the tail to touch the ground so put a bench out for him to land on but thought that if the heli leaned then the radix stick bangers could strike the bench causing further damage. Chuck made the decision to just set her down gently on the grass and it proved to be the best decision. Landed gently and tail rotors didn't even touch the ground! Further inpection found that the skid hit a paddle then the tail blades causing nicks in the k&B's and a skuff mark on the carbon paddle. The long antennae dangling from the bottom of the heli faired well too. Could have been worse!

It's the same thing that requires that little white erection that dangles underneath the helicopter.

I do miss my old 72mhz antenna on my old 9C. That transmitter was much more balanced weight wise than my 12FGH.

Anyone know where I can get one of those chrome hanging ballsacs to put on my transmitter handle? 1/2 lb should do.

A MAN'S RADIO!
Yep! the good ole 9C. A MAN'S Radio! It's a lot more heavier than these newer 2.4 Ghz radios as well!

yeah I miss my ol' 72' too. The frequency peg board, the colored frequency flags flying from the transmitter, the odd accidental same freq turn on in the pits.

Yeah, those sure were the days!!!

sorry, I just *had* to jump on the bandwagon on this one!

A fishing pole
Reminds me of the time I was float flying at the lake and a lady came up and asked if I was catching anything. I told her I wasn't fishing and she was all confussed. I pointed out the airplane and said I was flying a r/c plane. Then she said "you're not fishing?".

That was a great save, Chuck. I hope you can get it all ironed out and back in the air. I guess me and Roger are going to have to get fishing poles for our transmitters!

Awesome save and great pix.

Question....why do so many people have different pitch curves from NORM to ST1 and ST2??

Mine are all the same.0-100.
-13* to +13*

Good Question
For me, my Idle Up 1 and 2 I simply have a linear pitch curve. i.e. 0 25 50 75 100 on a 5 point curve graph. BUT, my Normal pitch curve is something like 42 46 50 75 100 so that I don't have a lot of negative pitch on the low end since I won't be doing stunts in that mode. It's kind of a preference thing from pilot to pilot I think.
