I have an evo 50 which has been built for some time but only recently I have wired up all the electrics and started to fly it.

The tailrotor gear is too tight against the lower drive gear but I see no way to change the mesh without filing out the holes in the frame.

Right now it just drags and clacks away when the rotor is turned. I can remove the bolts to the bearing blocks and see that the tail belt is turning just fine but with the bolts in the lower two bearings, even before any tightening of the bolts, the mesh is already too tight, there is no backlash at all and it is not smooth.

'Any ideas?

There was a 79 and an 80 tooth second gear, but i am not sure if there was any difference with the 17 t gear that runs up against it.Try another gear before you start slotting holes.

If it were me I would double check the assembly, there is something amiss for sure. I've built a dozen of these machines and this area can be easily overlooked regarding correct assembly.

Well, regarding the assembly, there's just not many ways that particular part can go together. As far as I can tell the bearing blocks are symmetrical. I tried flipping them 180 degrees but it didn't make any difference.

I have an older spare airframe so I took the tailrotor drive assembly off and fitted it and it is better. There's still no discernable play at all in the mesh but it is smoother and turns more freely.

It also seems that the belt tension makes a big difference so I think it is now set on the slack side of the equation but still tight enough to be OK.

The gear on mine is 80 tooth and the tailrotor gear is 17 tooth but the manual shows that gear as 79 tooth.

Trillian,

Keep an eye open on fleabay for the delrin gear set.I got two new sets last year for a third of the ripmax price.Totally transforms the sceadu. If you need another gear, i am down in Kent , but up in London fairly often.Pm me and we can organise a gear for you.Have a couple that i will never use, having changed over to the Delrin gears.
