Well after doing status quo , going bigger faster more expensive, like I always do, I stepped back, got a .60 size and been enjoying it. I like the presence of the 90's and gassers. But being cheaper all the way around, made me start to have more fun. Being in this hobby i've noticed that we have to have the best, the latest and greatest(look at my radio). well I went little old school and been happy.

Been there done that.I had fourteen helis, including two gassers,90 size etc. I was bored a couple years ago on a rainy weekend. I threw together a raptor fifty from parts I had around.I grab that one almost every time I go fly.

Well said. I also am feeling the "where does it end" blues. Kicking around going FBL but if I like it, I will want it on all my birds. Talking lots of money and time.

I am starting to think just fly what I have and be happy with it. Forget about all the latest and greatest.

Well said. If you dont have the latest and greatest then the attitude is you dont have anything. It seams rather simple minded. I perfer to live and play with my head first rather then my wallet. Or even worse credit.

I'm in 2 minds over this. One one hand, I love technology and feel compelled to look forwards but on the other hand, I'm no great pilot so WTF. My R50 allways got more air time than any other.

I could not outfly technology 4 years ago and I cannot now so WTF!I know guys at the field who have 10 Helis and none of them fly properly but they have the latest and greatest. Then you try to help them and ask if they programed this or that in their radio and they just look at you and have no idea what the hell you were talking about. Or they have the latest gadgets and complain that they do not work, then you ask them : Did you read the manual?? Most of the time the answer will be no.
The last year I actually had the best of times buying in the classified section, man it s awsome! You get stuff thats really great just because People are chucking it . A year ago I bought a Solid G Gyro for 170 bucks with a G view used and that was a great deal. Now I saw one for 100 Bucks!!!Why becasue its "OLD"" LMAO . Still one of the best out there. This is becomming just like the computer industry. If its older than 6 months its Outdated!Come on.Save the money and go on a nice vacation with your loved ones instead!!

I've got some great deals my self here on RR from guys that just have to have the "newest" & "latest" electronics out on the market I have 6 heli's now just because they was so cheap i couldn't let them go. I stopped buying new some time ago

a lot of guys are jumping on the 8v band wagon some i don't think have the skills needed to see the difference, I myself don't so cant see spending all that money to update

I guess if your in it to show off your never done, if you just want a nice heli with quality goodies once its in the air you should be done with it unless something fails

I bought my Vibe 50 for 350 bucks, it came packaged second to none and it has performed flawless for 400 flights now I just love it. Its awsome better then e bay or what have you!! LOL

For me it took a paycut to put things in perspective. I have 2 90s but I mostly fly the 50s due to the cost of fuel and crashes. I have to fly within my means, not what my CC can handle.

I have been in the hobby for some time now. I have been gradually upgrading the electronics in my existing fleet. There are some great deals on 601/611 gyros and 2.4 receivers on the used market right now just because they are yesterdays news.

Man, those hit some nerves, actually this thread does! Glad to hear
that at least some people think this way.

At any given time, it seems like I am running 'outdated' old-school
stuff, or in the eyes of a lot of guys on here, just plain obsolete!
But what I do run works and seems to work very well and keeps me
enjoying the hobby.

And yes, I also like new tech, and seeing what is coming out next, but
IN NO WAY am I one to try to keep up on it personally. Would be so nice if technology would let you enjoy the 'latest and greatest' for
at least a little while, before pouring the next wave on you!

The only thing that bugs me a bit, I am a bit concerned that I will keep my heli for a wheile but then the company will just discontinue and I will not be able to get parts.Cause if this trend continues I think thats whats going to happen.New year new heli.Well not with me and I am planning to keep it for couple of years.Well or maybe not. There will be so many used lying around, just buy couple of airframes for peanuts and keep flying forever! I am starting to love this trend LOL!
Just look how many Hypers you can get for peanuts!!Man I should store some.

Exactly. The current price of the 55 class engine/pipe is waaaaay to close to what I paid for my YS 90. I'll just make do with everyone else's "garbage 50s"

That was kind of my gripe w. JR helis; most of their 50s, up through
the Airskipper, were all 'obsolete' within a year or two, (Vibe 50 seems to be an exception), I owned 3 of them, and, at least I, thought
they were good helis......but all three were discontinued not long
after buying each of them!

Now, one company, T/T has just kept putting out the same heli year after year, for many now, and I have STILL yet to own one......

I think that sometimes this is why the hobby stops being fun at least for me it was. I flew planks and when the planes got bigger more complex and costly I started losing interest. The same thing happened with heli's I was having fun with a raptor 30 I was learning it was an easy bird to work on and cheap. But then I decided I had to have a trex600E cause thats what everyone else was going for at the time and the battery prices came with the expensive chargers and then charger broke bought another expensive charger. Then the batteries needed replacement after a while so even more money was spent at one time for more packs because of the short flight times and long charge times etc. It just got to me after a while. I'm getting ready to start back up but this time I'm keeping things simple and fun. Everyone else can have the latest and greatest. I'm not going to keep up with the heli Jone's anymore.

I used to go to field with trailer and 15 Helis over 5 different tx and spent more time in trailer doing maintenence and charging batteries .I stalled in flight performance also because even if you setup heli all the same they still fly different . Now I have 4 two 600 and 2 700 I fly 600 all the time so I get same feel to learn tricks then when I'm good at trick I use 700.

I stole it ,flew it and gave it back ;)

I own a Vibe and its a awsome heli and I just hope they do not dump it soon. If they make a new one it should be partscompatible! If not I am really going to be pi.... off!You are right Raptors seem to be there forever. Wich I actually find quite of cool. They evolve but seem to fly forever.
I have two helis a 450 and a 50 and thats just about right. I already have enough to do to keep them in top shape.
I actually bought myself a 40 size plane a T 34 Mentor and compared to the helis it is really cheap but you know what its just such a blast to scoot around the skys and the stresslevel is so much lower then with a heli, I love that thing. Simple, 5 Servos, Balsawood and a nice OS 46 thats it. You dont need more to have fun and learn piloting.
