Perhaps a stupid question, but anyway. I am wondering about how to adjust the mixing arm rods and pitch arm rods.

I'm used to heli's like the T-rex and Raptor where the mixing arms are mounted to the seesaw. On these heads, when for instance adjusting tracking, I have adjusted the pitch rod (short rod) for larger changes and mixing rod (long rod) for the smaller adjustements.

Will this be the same for the Hirobo type head with the mixing arms mounted on the blade grip? I had a feeling that on this head I should leave the pitch rod, and only adjust the mixing rod. Or perhaps I need to adjust them both??

The only stupid question is one not asked.....

First, understand that you can have a level bell mixer and have any amount of pitch in the blades you desire with that level mixer. Therefore, you first have to decide if you're centering the system on 0 degrees of pitch or on 1 or 2 degrees as you would with a contest set up. For the sake of discussion, I work around the first choice since the concepts there will easily apply to the other option.

Basically all you need to do is place the collective at exactly half stick, which will place the three eCCPM servos in the center of their travel. Put a pitch gauge on a blade and set the gauge for 0 degrees. Now all you have to do is juggle the length of the short rod from the flybar carrier to the bell mixer and the long rod up from the swashplate to the mixer until the bell mixer it level when the blade pitch is at 0 degrees. For those doing a contest style set up, the mixer would be set to level when the blade pitch is about 1.5 or 2 degrees. Once this baseline arrangement is found and then copied on the other set of rods for the other blade grip, any fine tracking adjustments are to be done with the long rod from the swashplate to the bell mixer.

Make sense?

In the SDX manual it says to adjust the blade tracking with the short link.

You can do that as well. I use the longer rods because doing so effectively keeps all the rods on the head, eg the hiller rods on the cage and the two short rods off the carrier, all the same length for consistency. Either way works fine. How fine an adjustment you get with each turn of the link is a function of whether the head is set up more for 3D with the the rod from the swashplate going to the shorter side of the bell mixer or for more stability with the longer side of the bell mixer hooking up to that same rod.

Thank you. It seems pretty clear to me now after your explanations. I guess I will find out if I understood it as soon as I get to that step in my build. I'm about to mount the servos as my next step, so I will soon be there. I see this kit have some pins to lock the mixer arm in 90 degrees, making it easier to get it properly aligned.

Regarding tracking adjustment I understand it doesent really matter if one adjust on the long or the short. But if a larger adjustement is needed, perhaps the best is to adjust on both in order to keep the mixer at 90 degrees?

By the way, I will start out with the setup as described in the manual as I'm aming for a 3D type of setup.
