I'm sure you'll get more replies but can you tell us about what your budget is? I think ehirobo has a whole setup for $100 + shipping but it's as low end as you can get.
Do you want Cheap, Middle or High end?

I have Hitec 5245's on my cyclic and Hyperion DS20 (Thier full sized tail servo).

Its pretty tough to beat the align stuff for a 500 size heli. They can be pricy if you buy retail but they are readily available through the clasifieds at very reasonable cost.

i guess i'm looking for med grade stuff as i dont see myself going full acrobatic, just sport flying. and if it were good enough to swap up to a bigger heli like a 600+ eventually, if thats even possible, that would be sweet too.

i dont mind spending a bit more for quality if its worth it, or for anything that would make it fly better, or EASIER! (LHS guy said there are tx that are better for helis??).

anyway i looked around for a pkg deal on kits for a 500 but didnt see anything that had ALL the pcs- servos, gyro, motor, etc.

but i guess other options would include shopping list suggestions. ?

thanks for the help.

Most of the the electronics wont interchange between a 500 and a 600 size heli. The 500 size servos are smaller than a standard servo and the speed controller and motor are also smaller. If you are looking to save money you can find 3 servo packages of the align 510 servos for a reasonable price. Hitec also makes some good servos but I dont know what the part numbers are. I dont think you will be able to find a complete electronics package as this is usually offered by the heli mfg when you buy a kit.

Thanks, I'll check out the Align 510 servos but for the tail rotor do i need to match the servo brand with the gyro or does that matter?

No doesn't matter at all. Get the fastest servo you can afford. I bought a Hitec Hs 5000 gyro and matching servo for $100.00. Depends on what your looking for. As far as ESC goes the Align 60 esc will work just fine. Also the Align 1600 kv motor for the 500 will fly it just fine. If not then look for a used Scorpion 3026-1400 kv or 1600 kv motor.

Carpe Diem!!!

They do not need to be the same brand. You just want to use a quality servo that is fast. This is where you dont want to cut corners. Buy the best gyro and tail servo that your budget allows.

okay how about a rx and tx?

i'm looking at the the spektrum DX7 that comes with 4 servos- http://www.heliproz.com/prodinfo.asp?number=155000

or the futaba 7C combo- http://www.heliproz.com/prodinfo.asp?number=179605

and can i use one of the 4 servos for the rudder? also wondering which gyro and esc to use with either of these setups?

and flight batteries, which are best value?

anything else i'll need?

sorry for all the questions but i want to make sure i buy the right parts. thanks, guys!

I myself would go with the dx7 combo. But don't use the servo for a tail servo. Way to slow.
However I'm not sure you can use stardard size servos in a trex 500.
Gyro just depneds on how much you want to spend.
Batteries, I have been flying Zippy Flight Max 6s 3000mah from Hobby City. These are only 20c batteries. A buddy flies the new Hyperion batteries and there is a hell of a difference in power but also the price is a lot more too.

Carpe Diem!!!

i didnt realize the DX7 combo servos would not fit the 500 so i guess thats not gonna work.

which and how many hyperion batts is your buddy using?

my main goal is to avoid buying something that isnt compatible with this project, but being new to helis AND rc in general, its tough to know whats what, so please chime in if you have suggestions.

thanks!
