Hi guys,I am converting a 600 rex to e-power. I am not an acomplished flyer, just circuts and orientation practice, so I am after good flight times,weight not such a big issue. I would like to go 8s or 10s, as I understand it is easier on batts, would a 10s give me better flight time over 8s,any suggested bat sizes that will fit in a 600, motor etc. Thanks

If it were me and I was setting up a 600 right now, I would run 12s. I would use a pair of 6s 2500 packs that I could also run in my 500. That would make for a handy setup.

BTW here is a link to my site where I hope the reasoning for HV setups is well explained.

Thanks for the link, I have seen some of your great work which has helped me in the past, but I had not seen that one,I will have to look harder! So if I understand correctly,a 12s on a 600 at say 2500 which I do run on my 500 will be good on a 600, great,I know I am cheating to ask! but what sort of run time would that give on a 600, being that I do not fly hard or 3d at all

I was under the impression that a 600 would need more like 4000 to 5000 mah cells to ge5t a decent flight time.

Hi Neal,

Something to consider is weight. Rather weight/CG. My 600 gets the best cg with around 900 grams in the front.
You could go with a pair of 5s 3700s. This would not be to heavy and would have plenty of power plus a decent fly time. All keeping the cg good.
I run a pair of 4s 3700 batteries and get around 5 minutes. HS is high also. If you were to run 10s 3700 with a little lower head speed, you could get maybe 6 to 7 minutes. Maybe longer.

Something to think about anyways.

Terry,

Edit: For a motor you could go with a Scorpion 4025 740 or 890. Both would work well with 8 or 10s. I run the the 890.

If you have the money go with a Kontronik Jazz 55-10-32 esc.

Many other options but this would be a great set up. You could maybe go with 4200 mAh batteries also. This would give you more fly time.

A stock Rex600e runs a 6s 5000 pack. So the equivalent amount of energy in a 12s pack would be a 12s 2500 pack. Sure you can go bigger but then you also get heavier. Plus the coolest thing about running a pair of 2500-3000 6s packs is that you can use them in your 500. The flight time you get is totally based on what you ask the heli to do. A stock Rex600e will fly 10min easy if you keep the head speed down and be nice to it. If you beat on it at with a high head speed you can drain a pack in 3min.

Here is a helpful way to compare the different power systems on a "total energy" way and that is use Wh.

A 6s 5000mAh pack is ...
Wh = V * Ah = 22.2V * 5Ah = 111Wh

A 10s 3700 pack is ...
Wh = 37V * 3.7Ah = 137Wh

A 12s 5000mAh pack is ...
Wh = 44.4V * 5Ah = 222Wh

Since a Rex600e is designed to carry a 111Wh pack, in terms of weight, then you can figure out what capacity 8s and 10s packs would give you approx the same weight.

Comparable 8s pack is ...
Ah = Wh / V = 111Wh / 29.6V = 3.75Ah or 3750mAh

Comparable 10s pack is ...
Ah = 111Wh / 37V = 3Ah or 3000mAh

Thanks c54fun, and TJinGuy, I think it the decision is pretty much made for me, being able to run the same packs in both my 500 and a 600 would be a damn good way to go, I am running align 2600s at the moment, but will be looking for a couple of extra ones soon, and was going to look for something around the three thousand mark, so i will make sure I can get them into a 600 as well.Thanks for your advice TJinGuy, now I will start finding what is a good motor and speed controller, gearing, headspead for me to start with,I am only just getting to circuts, and practicing orientation! So off I go!
Again thanks for the help.
