I just noticed that the tail control on my previously built 500 is backwards.
Aside from the obvious gyro/rudder reversal, how will this effect the tails performance in flight. This heli is new to me and I have only done basic hovering with some ff circuits and the tail has been fine to this point.

If you're talking about the blades themselves, they always need to be leading edge spinning backwards towards you if you're looking from the rear. If you're talkinga bout the blade grips being leading/ trailing edge, there are both types on various helis. Similar to leading/ trailing control on the main grips.

The control differences on the grips won't be noticable to you unless you did something backwards...the tail blades themselves, well if you are running them trailing edge you probably wouldn't have very good tail control and I would imagine you couldn't fly it.

Life is tough, it's tougher if you're stupid

Its the blade grips themselves. They are assembled backward and are trailing edge control instead of leading edge control. The heli has been flying fine this way and I was unaware of the issue until I installed the weight mod on the tail, when I discovered it I changed it to the correct leading edge control and what I'm asking is what difference this will make in the actual flight characteristic?

With regards to the tail, if you have leading edge vs. tailing edge control, it affects the direction the tail blades are pointing at center throw (of the pitch slider ball sliding on the t/r shaft). It is supposed to be such that when the pitch slider is in the middle of it's throw, there is a little bit of pitch to counteract the torque of the main blades. This will give maximum rudder control. If you have it backwards, then when the pitch slider is in the middle, there will be a little bit of pitch WITH the torque of the main blades. This will result in not having as much rudder control in a left turn. In all reality, if you're just hovering and doing circuits, you won't notice at all.

On the tail, the direction the leading edge of the blades point is the direction they want to go and so they "blow" air the other direction. Therefore, since your main blades are turning clockwise (as viewed from the top), then with the t/r at the middle of the pitch slider you'll want the leading edge of the blades pointing a little bit to the left (as viewed from behind).
