I recently bought a product from the NY area, and My address is in Ohio. While tracking the product, the package was shipped right through my state, then on to Iowa which is like 3-4 states away, and now it's going east again.

STARTED

east to west, now west to east. This makes no sense to me. It's no wonder the us postal service is BROKE!!!

I feel the pain Brian . I ordered a motor and speed control from Value Hobbies a couple months ago and it only took 15 days to get it to my house . It layed in Grand Rapids for 10 days before making it's way through our state into Pa then back to Ohio . I was like WTF is wrong with these people ..... oh wait a minute the US government is involved .

If you're not living on the edge you're just taking up space !

That is a really good question. I guess Im mainly upset that the product skipped right through my state, and is now moving backwards. It should only take 3 days tops for me to get this mailing, not 6.
I could drive to this location in 12 hours flat.

I get packages from the upper northwest faster then this all the time.

Generally my out of state shipping is faster than my in state. Don't think that USPS is the only carrier that operates this way either.
I was waiting on an arrival of some live fish being delivered to me by Fed-ex, It was late arriving to the district location so it was sent back to the main hub to be re-shipped the next day! Total bonehead move IMO and I really don't get it but hey, what do I know.

The package was scanned into Desmoines IA on Jan 21, 2010, and that is the last scan that has been posted. I just went to my Local Postal office, and they say the only reason it would be on a route like that is if it was on a Airplane shipment.

The weird thing is, I normally recieve my paycheck every thursday morning, but with King shutting down the country services, I figured that was the delay with that. Still no paycheck either. No bills either, so that is not so bad.....

Yea me to
I shipped my buddys heli thurs from IL. To TX Big box and shipped the tail boom and supports in a tube to save a little money both 3 day priority. The po assured it would arrive Sat. He informed me today the heli made it but the tube with the boom and supports didn't arrive. Go figure the big box made it on time but the smaller tube didn't. It's insured for $500 so I guess if it don't make it he gets a new torque tube, supports, drive shaft, tail case.radix blades and 8900 and mount, vertical and horizontal fin. At the very least I am going to demand a discount for the 3 day priority

I totally agree. I never understood why the skip the destination to go right back to it. I figured a while ago that for in state (Fl) it is next day for Fed EX and still 2 for FCM and 2-3 for Priority Mail So when I order in state, I choose Fed Ex, out of state Priority Mail .......Ron

I don't work for USPS but I do know they and the other big delivery companies have very intricate hub and distribution channels that they use. What may seem unusual to us on the outside may actually work much better than we think. I've watched several great TV shows on Fed Ex and the USPS and their systems are actually quite amazing. Do they make mistakes, sure. But when delivering millions and millions of letters and packages every day I think their ratio is pretty good. But I too get impatient when waiting on a critical heli part and it takes a day or two longer than I would like.

I had a W-2 form a few years back that went from PA to Hawaii to Washington State, back to Pa, and then to me in Virginia. No wonder they are always looking to raise the rates.

The United States Postal Service handles a wide range of cards, letters, and packages. It delivers roughly 203 billion pieces of mail a year at an average of 667 million per day to some 149 million addresses in the US and its territories. It also operates under a universal service obligation which means that it quite possibly delivers your package at a net loss (why it's broke). The USPS is an independent government agency employing some 660,000 people which relies on postage and fees to fund its operations.

I've had my issues with USPS. But personally, I'm happy with the service they provide. I'd also venture to say that it is far more efficient than our current healthcare system which is making a few people very very rich and many many more very poor.

The Post Office handles billions of pieces of mail, as said before. But in my experience they have been quite reliable. But it's all in how you use the service. First off, always make sure you put a shipping slip in the box that contains your return address and the destination address, that way if the main label gets torn off, the package automatically goes to a "dead letter" office and they open the contents to find such a thing, If nothing is found, items are catagorized, and information as much as they have is entered into a database incase someone reports it. Second, I never use the PO for "Large" shipments. There is a reason that their flat rate boxes are just a certain size. I think that's about the biggest I would ever send through the PO, is the size of the biggest flat rate box. Everything else goes through Fedex, or UPS for me if it's bigger. But I guess getting to the main complaint of the package not going from door to door, get over it man! The packages all get bundled up with thousands of others, and taken to a main distribution/sort facility and redistributed from there.

Kickin it - flybar style.

Personally, I'll take the USPS over any other provider any day. Actually, I will buy from a vendor the uses USPS priority over a vendor that uses UPS. For the same price (or usually less) than a typical UPS ground service, I usually get my package in 2 days if ordered from the east coast or 3 days if ordered from the west coast.

On the other hand, if it goes UPS ground - then I have noticed that 3 days is the minimum from anywhere - and I am currently waiting on a package from the west coast that has been "in-transit" for 7 days now.

Go USPS! You ROCK!

I agree, small packages USPS priority with delivery confirmation.
Large packages fedex ground home delivery.
These are the rules I follow, however one does tend to be forgetful sometimes. So I show up at the post office with two packages as I am shipping a 30 size bird. One rectangular, and a tube like package. She puts the big one up on the scale, whips out the tape measure, and says that will be $33
The light goes off, sale price of the bird quickly evaporating Run away screaming
Fedex home delivery both packages total, $22. East coast to west coast from Monday, delivered on Friday
When you get outside of their norm at the post office the $ goes nuts! And I would never send parcel post, a donkey would be more reliable.

Good luck collecting that... I insured a model i sent in the mail and double boxed it too and they wouldnt pay up after completely mashing it and destroying the model... saying i didnt box it properly.... i was so mad.. if it wasnt packaged right then why didnt they say something when i brought it in to get sealed up and shipped.. total scam.

and the reason nobody can compete and run lower prices than the usps is cause its a govt agency, you arent allowed to undercut them on prices not that anyone could because they are subsidized by the govt...they lose money every year but the govt keeps feeding them money...

(now off topic a bit)
just like they do for amtrak... amtrak loses 32 dollars average for every passenger but still stays in buisness cause the govt keeps shoveling YOUR tax dollars into keeping it running instead of letting it fail and someone else taking over and making it profitable again... Forty-one of Amtrak’s 44 routes lost money in 2008 with losses ranging from nearly $5 to $462 per passenger depending upon the line, according to analysis by Pew’s Subsidyscope

Not to mention medicare and medicade or the educational system..and now GM (govt motors)

What nobody mentions for USPS is that their benefits are NOT covered by USPS, they are paid for with tax dollars and not considered when determining the "profitability" of the USPS. So when someone says the USPS pays for itself they are correct ONLY IN THAT THEY DON'T PROVIDE THE COST OF BENEFITS!..

If the USPS were forced to become a private sector company it would struggle and likely fail.
