Hi Neal,

If you are after long flight times with some acrobatics/soft 3D I think you should think of either 10s 4000mahr or 10s 5000mahr packs. Forget about 8s, the 10s 4000mahr is ~ same energy capacity as 8s 5000mahr, but 10s is more efficient.

I have tried both and I prefered the 10s 4000 packs (2x5s). The 10s 5000 were hard to CG properly (although it can be done) but added a lot more weight so the heli was a little sluggish, but it did give me a lot more runtime.

Flight times are ~7-8 minutes with the the 10s 4000 pack at ~2100 rpm headspeed. If you are prepared to drop this down to ~ 1750-1850 rpm then you should get ~ 9-10 minutes of flight time.

I'd recommend you start with a 10s4000 setup and go from there.

As far as converting a 600N to electric, I'd say it's better to sell your 600N and buy a used 600E heli. It might also be worth waiting a month or two for HobbyKing to come out with a 600E clone and then use your bits to upgrade it.

Cheers,
TomC

This is a question from a guy who still has a lot to learn about heli's, why is it better to start with an e-version?
I was just going to buy the motor mount, shim it to fit the 600n frames, job done.Am I missing a bit of the puzzle?

Neale,

Pretty basic really; remove the engine , clutch assembly , tank , throttle servo, select a motor, buy a mount, bolt that in using spacers (the nitro is wider than the electric by a small amount), line up your pinion to the main gear, drill 4 holes for the electric motor mount.

As long as you are able to accurately line-up the motor mount, you should not have any problems.

I only suggested swapping to an E-version since it just a bit easier and it might make some economic sense since 600n's command a fairly good price and old 600e's seem to sell at fairly low prices.

Cheers,
TomC

Thanks for that TomC, if I can find a 600e, I will buy it, if I can find a 600n I will buy II! Down here the e version seems a bit more pricey! But I will take either, unfortunately heli's are a bit harder to find second hand. And a lot of people don't wish to ship OS, so it is just a matter of looking and waiting. If I can find a airframe only, or a bit more of either I will take it. Modifying a nitro does not worry me,I drew and cut my own 700 gasser frames. I will Ideally pick up an e-version with some extras, but no motor and speedy, as I am going with a 12s setup, I already have a few 2500 to 3300 6s for my 500. And thanks for your thoughts,as you don't learn much if you don't listen

You should get very nice runtimes with those 2x6s 3300 packs!
