Hey I have a 401 on my new backup atom 500 and I am loving the maiden. I just have one problem, no matter what gain I run I end up with wag, its better at the 65 and 100 percent gain. I dont get it, I am running a .05 sec servo and in ds with no delay. Which way is no delay, I think my sticker is off. This is why I love my new logictech 6100!

All the way ccw should have the delay at zero . Have you checked the tail to insure it's working smooth throughout the travel ? What radio are you using and what servo ?

If you're not living on the edge you're just taking up space !

+1 on what servo. Did you set it up in rate mode first. The 401 is an excellent gyro so unless something is wrong with it. It's your set up check your set up again. The 401 tends to like high gains mine is at 80% on my 450 and close to that on my others.

Fill out your Profile
If you fill out your profile about your equipment people can look to see what servo to save a little time

IMO, he original post looks rather like a logictech 6100 advert,
I wonder if there will be any follow up, other than a flock
of posts "yeah, mine logictech 6100 is great too, screw futaba"

The problem could be lots of things, I would start looking for
any slop plus binding in the tail control, or maybe the tail grips
are off by 180 deg ( ball links on the trailing edge ), who knows..

...but the first thing I would double-check - is if the gyro
runs in digital servo mode - analog servo mode introduces
a fixed latency in the control loop and might cause tail wag
in most but very low gain settings..

I just love it when the author post's and then takes off.

But that aside the prob is most likely something mech binding or you have way too much slop in your setup.

It could even be your batts surgeing..

We really have no idea what going wrong here. We know that there is a wag, and zero limit on the potentiometer.

Go back and reset the mechanical set up first.(Use the search fu on RR site).

Heres what could be wrong: Its called mechanical gain, the further out you have the ball on your tail servo's horn, the higher mechanical gain you get due changing how much the pushrod will travel versus the degree of travel on the servo itself. The further IN the ball is (toward the servo horn screw), the less mechanical gain you get. Now here is the moral of the story, If you get too much mechanical gain, you will not be able to lower the gain enough in the radio. Move your ball in one hole at a time and see what happens. I see it all the time.

I agree, mechanical gain is really the only thing left to check, as long as everything is working correctly.

I love when folks agree what the specific problem is
- without even seeing the symptoms or having any details.
I my book it's called "jumping to conclusions" ;-)

...no offense intended, but how can anyone draw any kind
of conclusion from this description, which btw does not make
much sense, imo :

- "no matter what gain I run I end up with wag,
its better at the 65 and 100 percent gain"
so is there any difference when changing gain
or is there no change ? can't be both, right ?

- "I think my sticker is off" - WTH ??

- "This is why I love my new logictech 6100" - where is that fitting ?

...but it's a good thread for a rainy weather

Ok everybody relax. The sticker is on btw just checking. I have it set so I barely had to touch the limit on the gyro so mechanically it is perfect. In rate is it great and i set it up first flipped the switch 3 times to save it. My servo is HYPERION ATLAS DS 20 GMD it better then the futaba offerings and It worked perfect on my 50's. I dont know why it wags the way it does. It is not a plug for my 6100 at all, just commenting on how the gyro gives you a little more adjustability. Honestly I am not at a point where that comes into play yet and I love my 401! I leaned to piroflip with it!

Well I have it setup so that it has full range of travel, using the least amount of limit pot. Isnt that the way it is supposed to be, any coloser and I dont think that I will even get the full range? Could that be the problem? I wanna have the range! It piros like a champ right now and the limits are set for blazing piros!

If you have silky smooth linkages with no binding but still suffer the problem, then try Chinese weights.
