Looking for a decent phone for my son. Anyone have any views on the Nokia 5530 ? (sure the iPhone is great but the price is out of order)

I have the Nokia 5800 - essentially the same as the 5530 but with a few more features.

I love it. I've had it since Xmas and have no problems at all.

baldgeek - thanks, you tipped it for me after I've been reading humengous amounts of reviews wherein I'd vered towards the 8500.

Yug - no probs. Isn't that what this community is all about?

I'm not really into the games but I downloaded a torch application which has come in handy, Opera for web browsing and installed Garmin XT on it and I'm all set now. The inbuilt GPS with Garmin maps is brilliant. No need to use Google maps etc.

In NZ we have a dedicated group of people that made, update and provide FREE, weekly updates to the maps for the whole of NZ.

If I'm surfing the 'net with the phone I tend to use the stylus instead of my fat fingers but for txting I use the whole keyboard in "landscape mode" with my fingers.

I found the camera to be pretty reasonable for what I've done so far (video and still) but haven't used it in low light situations.

I installed an iPhone theme only because I like the icons...

Enjoy. PM if you want any more info.

Cheers,
Steve

Thanks all. 8500 ordered and winging it's way to me (or rather my son). I'm still using an el-cheapo £5 phone and am totally happy with it. A phone is a phone, a PC is a PC.
