While this servo isn't powerful enough for a heli application, I wondered if the geometry would be improved from such a type of servo?

Linear servos were in fashion a long time ago, but like single stick radios they seem to have disappeared. I wonder why that is? I think they would be better in a direct-to-swash linkage.

The older linear output servos were nice, however the output was a rack and pinion arrangement, and was easily damaged in a crash. Crashes usually resulted in the top of the servo being ripped off with the ensuing loss of gears and those little countershafts. It also required a good sized servo to get a decent amount of travel. The were not particularly fast. Backlash in the gear train was not all that great.

EMS Linear
Here is a link to the latest EMS linear conversion. Rack and pinion is gone, no slop and should also fit on the S3152 servo. A little faster and more inch/ounces.

They use to make a cool double grooved wheel with strong braided cables to a traveling linear car. You could mount on any servo and it was strong, perfect for cyclics going to bellcranks.
