I put a lipo in a DX7 and have been charging it with the stock charger. Now I have been told that I have to remove the battery and charge it as a normal lipo.
any help.

omg DON'T charge a lipo in your TX with a NiMh charger. The charge protocols are way different. I'm no expert, but I remember reading up on the topic awhile ago and I recall that alot of the early lipo fires were due to charging with improper chargers.

You should physically remove the battery from the Tx to charge it. Charge it with a Lipo charger and balance it as well.

Re-install then after it's charged.

You should only have to charge every few weeks, assuming you use it alot, or every few months if not used alot. LiPo's seem to last forever in that radio.

Randy!!! I am the liquor

I'm surprised you weren't told that you need a Lipo charger to charge lipos, the stock wall wart is design for charging NiCd and NiMh. It's safer to charge Lipos outside of any aircraft or Tx. in case the pack decides to Flame.

Kingjoe-
Do yourself a favor--
Put a small square of black Electrical tape over the plug hole that the wall pack plugs in to on the radio as a mental reminder!
This will keep you from making the same mistake again!

Next put the wall pack charger for NiMh in a drawer or a closet so it's not a habit to try to plug it in again!!

REMOVE your lipo and give it a proper charge/balance and re-adjust your thinking that when you have 11.1 volts on the radio display that your on the bottom of a 3C lipo---Time to charge!!!

I know more than one pilot at our field that made the mistake of keeping the 9.8v mentality! Thus they "over discharged the lipo" !!

Issue resolved. Ended up I had the lipo on the shelf, as it was discharged in the fall, and I was on my way out to fly and thru in the stock battery and forgot all about it.
Goog Idea about tape over the hole.
With my memory, I shound epoxy the chargeing port if the tape falls off. LOL
Thanks
