I have seen threads of guys installing a backlite themselves but have not heard of JR installing them in older units. If I remember correctly it was quite a job to do for these guys. During the day you wont notice a backlight and frankly I never needed one at any time. It would be nice I guess.. but not needed at least for me.

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly far better than I can pilot them

I remember the diy backlight jobs . I was just wondering since the 9503 is basically the same radio if anyone contacted JR to see if they would put a backlight in a 9303 .

Spoke with Amanda at Horizon this morning and she says NO they won't put the back light in the 9303 . As I assumed they would say in effort to promote the 9503 . Oh well was worth a try .

As Paul Harvey would say....Now you know the rest of the story .

If you want a backlight, it would probably make more sense to sell your 9303 and buy a 9503.

I added one of these: http://www.drapko.sk/msystem/main.htm to my X9303. It cost less than $20 and I haven't worried about remembering to start the timer since.

If JR would install the backlight in the 9303 for a fraction of the cost why would I buy a new radio .

If I felt the same way I wouldn't have started this thread.

I have a little talking timer on my neckstrap that keeps me informed. I often forgot to start the timer on my DX7. I also like the minute by minute notifications my timer give me.

At the pits we, well I, use lanterns and rope light, but out at the flight line the darker the better. The only pain is when firing up, radio on, trims good, so forth. Having a visual on the timer will be nice as well. Question though can the light be turned on and off easily, or dimmed? Anyone know?

BTW- try night flying, quite honestly takes a little to get use to, but fun as hell!!!

It's probably not cost effective to retrofit the backlight in the 9303 for Horizon.

I guess it wouldn't be in a time of promoting a new radio that's basically the same . Oh well I thought it was worth a try . I could care less about the timer on the 9503 I just find it a pita sometimes without the backlight .

Wasn't someone running a trade in on radios ?
