I feel really dumb (probably not as dumb as I looked when it happened) but I think I should share my experience.

Check and Re-Check that Idle-Up Switch.

As you see in the photos, there's some damage caused by.. flipping the throttle hold off with the idle-up on..

Here's the story.. it was cold Monday so I turned on the transmitter and plugged in the battery in the car.. I then walked down to the park where I fly (300 yards) and apparently my heavy winter coat hit the idle-up switch. I placed the helicopter on the ground.. did my flight control check (Cyclic, Collective and Tail Rotor).. adjusted my cold grip on the transmitter in expectation of the great 3D fun to come... and I flipped off the throttle hold..(the Monkey flipped the switch)..

Aviation is characterized as hours of boredom punctuated by moments of stark terror... Well I only received the moments of stark terror..

I don't have soft start on this Quark 33a so the throttle went to full.. the tail rotor couldn't counteract the torque (no thrust).. it tripped on the tail fin as it torqued around to the left.. rolled over on the right side and proceeded to beat the living daylights out of itself. Total flight (crash) time less than 2 seconds.. the time it takes your brain to have the monkey flip the hold switch back on again. I only wish that I had a video...

Check and Re-Check those switches..

Did you notice the feathering spindle? It broke into 3 pieces, one in each blade grip and the center is still in the head. I had Helidirect's Flying Sport New Damper System - TREX 450XL/SE Ver.2. They are not even touched.. but they where hard enough to destroy the spindle..

I needed a new flybar anyway.. the flybar was the old black non-stainless version.

That looks like it was exciting! I did something in the same vain a while back. My 450 was still on fm and I didn't read the screen very close on my 9303. After the gyro set I advanced the throttle and nothing happen, at first, after I got to full throttle and back it went crazy! The best chicken dance I've seem with one of my heli's.
My wife had just driven-up in time to see the whole dance, boy was she impressed!
After the dance I noticed I had set the Tx on the wrong heli.. Now I always double check, and I have gone to a 9303 2.4!

Ya really need to activate your soft start feature....

I start mine up in Idleup with soft start.

i did that a few weeks ago practicing autos with my 600N..i autoed down from idle 2..laded nice talked to my spotter for a second and with out thinking flicked TH off (while still in idle 2)and it went bezerko! haha spooled so fast the blades folded up and hit the boom..only damage was the boom and a few head links
