I don`t see it listed here.

Dave Dahl, where are you.

Please come out of retirement as a CD to host this funfly please.

It`s a great place to fly with all that grass it would be a shame to have a year go by without it.

Please Dave, come to the rescue.

Scott, I do believe that bakersfeild will still happen.Last year it was posted rather late as well, but Chuck did tell me it will happen each year even if it's not as big as it has been.Due to the few members in the area it's alot for 3 or 4 people to handle in the aspects of planning ,setup and running a big event. As for Dave,I've spoken with him on this topic before, and I agree with his reasons for not getting involved as he has so much on his plate with Kyle and Team Mikado. We just had our funfly here in Visalia and I'm always a stress case through the week or two before the event, as well as the months of planning. Let's just plan on attending bakersfeild and have as much fun as we did last year.It is a fantastic place to fly and it's a great laid back atmosphere. Not as well organized as it used to be,but a great time, and I look forward to it each year. Our Visalia group is usually the first to arrive and the last to leave (I've got pictures of our cars in front of the locked gate!!!!!)LOL!!!!

All these micros somehow turned my 450 into my BIG machine!?!?!?

2010 Bakersfield Fun Fly
NOT!

Right after the first of the year, in an attempt to find out if the 2010 event was going to happen, I sent out some e-mails (I'm not associated any longer with the hosting club, the Kern River Blade Runners, due to being out of their area). I hate to say it, but here's the facts:

The President of the the host club has vanished, reportedly hasn't flown in two years, has not returned my e-mails, and in fact was rarely at the 2009 event. He was president in name only.

The Sec/Tres who did e-mail me back (he now flies by himself at an abandoned golf course), said there are no 2010 Blade Runner members at all, and none are expected to join. The Blade Runners effectively expired in 2009, and their status as an AMA sanctioned club will expire March 31st. And, there are not five Bakersfield area paid AMA members remaining (that I know of or the Sec/Tres knows of), who are willing to "be" an AMA sanctioned club (AMA requires five AMA members at a minimum to qualify as a club).

The vanished President was the only one with any contacts in the now "non-cooperative" soccer park, so getting the field is not likely. And, without the AMA's site insurance that comes with being a sanctioned club, it is impossible.

The king is dead...long live the king (but in this case, there's no king to replace the dead one).

Funny how life works. An hour after I made that last post, the Blade Runner's Club President calls, said he's been out of town for 5 weeks on business, came home, saw my e-mail to him about the Fun Fly, and said he would work on securing the soccer park for the first weekend in May. The second weekend is Mother's Day, the third and fourth weekends already have Southern California events scheduled, so the first weekend it is.

So the event is still on life support, but not dead quite yet (-:

So stand-by, and we'll see how it goes.

I'm not really involved in the planning...I just know (on a casual basis) the (two) guys that used to be club members of the club that has put it on in the past. Neither one is doing anything to get it done that I know of, or promoting it, so I'm not too confident it will happen. If it does, it will be at the last minute, with no raffle, no sound system, no food, no drinks...just a place to fly if that.

The reason I'm answering, is because neither of the two guys noted above is involved in the hobby enough anymore to frequent the Forums......

Let's all have a moment of silence for the passing of what once was the largest (and best) Heli fun-Fly in the nation.

Bakersfield is dead...long live IRCHA.

It's never too late to plan an agreeable location between select clubs for next year tho. Bakersfield might be dead, but I wouldn't count out a west coast style IRCHA event next year.

Anyone know a good location? Overnight camping, big fields, etc!
