Here's a "How-to" for a very, very, very reliable glow plug driver.

Go here:

http://www.batteriesamerica.com/newpage3.htm

and get yourself one or two of these with tabs:

http://store.batteriesamerica.com/k...ellflattop.aspx

or even, one of these:

http://store.batteriesamerica.com/k...atterycell.aspx

Then get one of these, remove the ends and solder one of these to the ends of the Nicad Battery(s):

http://www.horizonhobby.com/Product...0#quickOverview

Then dip the battery in this so to seal the end and not have a short on the Nicad in your tool box:

http://www.plastidip.com/home_solutions/Plasti_Dip

You will have a glow plug driver that will last for years virtually maintenance free and only have to charge it a few times a year.

Great idea, ssrobzoom, and your first link brings up another idea.

The Sanyo Eneloop AA cells are some really good cells. They are 2000mAh each and they hold up to 80% of their charge for a year. Another possibility might be to use 2-4 AA Eneloop cells in parallel and you'll have a glow driver that will hold it's charge for quite some time.

I have to give credit to a fellow RR member Royrex. I got this Idea from him. He has been in the RC hobby quite a few years and very knowledgeable.

He has been teaching me in this hobby, Simple is better sometimes.

I found some 3000mah sub-c that still fit in my glow stick here:
http://www.hangtimes.com/giantrxpacks.html

Its been almost a year since I've charged it.

We use one of these:

http://www.horizonhobby.com/Product...0#quickOverview

as it does not cause to much load on the flimsy mounting bracket that's sometimes on the remote glow connector, so it does not crack or break over a period of time.

Let's see, the average glow plug uses about 2.5A

If the average start has the battery connected for 10 seconds and you have 10 starts a week (5 on Sat and 5 on Sun), you use 70mah per week.

6 month's flying takes about 1806 mah. Accounting for a self-discharge rate of 1%/week, a 3000mah cell (C size) can hold for the summer.

I thought the self-discharge rate was much higher than 1%/week.
