I can see the day
When there are only the big stores left. Many a small business have vanished because they cannot compete with these large companies.

Really dont know
what the answer is,people that earn less want cheaper products, these are mainly made abroad which costs us big time as far as jobs go.In this recession people like the Wallmarts of this world are doing great. Its like the fat dog eating its tail, soon there will be nothing left.I can see the only winner will be Asia. There is a trade war going on and i think we are losing it,unless you own one of these big companies that is.Outsourcing will hurt all of us,but that is your global economy and its here to stay.

A business only succeeds if customers come through the doors. I swore off walmart about 2 years ago for various reasons. But I do understand that especially in this economy, some feel the need to save every penny they can.

What to do?
Here is an example that I am wrestling with in reference to whether to by from my local home town hardware or go 25 miles and get the same things from a larger box hardware store.

I need an item, both places have the same identical item, do I pay $14.99 or $5.99. This is the same identical item.

I realize that the local hardware can provide me with personal service, saves me gas, provides a paycheck for a citizen of my community, etc.

But if I'm going to be in the big city anyway, gas is no longer and issue, personal service-I'm buying a small item that does not require either place to provide me with a direct service. Provides a paycheck for someone, who may very well live in my community.

Bottom line is, I get what I wanted, and saved $9.00 in the process, perhaps the $9.00 I saved will be spent in my home town? I haven't purchased the item yet and I am still pndering what to do. making the local purchase makes me feel like I am supporting my community and the local ecomony, saving $9.00 to me is a big deal? what to do, oh, what to do!

I'm not a pilot, I'm a crash facilitator!

You will find all the name brands at WalMart. A lot out of China, yes. But, you will find those same products at Freddy Meyers as well.

There is only one reason why WalMart is hated by some in this country and it all comes from the loony left. The reason: WalMart is NON UNION. Thats it. Thats the only reason.

The left complains whenever a WalMart comes to town. But, they don't complain when a Freddy Meyers come to town. The reason: Freddy Meyers is a UNION SHOP.

Thats it. Pure and simple. WalMart is a successful enterprise with thousands upon thousands of employees. They all pay taxes, same as you and me.

In a global economy then
May the best man win,who will be the winner, the ones that cannot afford to produce the goods in their own country or the ones that can.Its the bigger picture that is scary.

Exactly
Walmart is killing off our economy
Walmart opened a Super-Center in our town about 10 years ago. All of the small businesses are still in business, and more have opened. Because of the increased traffic, we have also had 3 new restaurants open, a Lowe's, Home Depot, Radio Shack, two cell phone stores, several clothing stores, a couple grocery stores, gas stations, and banks. Killing our economy? Complete and total BS! In fact, it does just the opposite.

As for Walmart forcing vendors to cut costs, resulting in moving jobs overseas, that's the vendors greed not Walmart's. I've seen it happen repeatedly. It's sickening. But, smart vendors will say "No thanks, we'll sell our products elsewhere.".

Yeah, we can force WalMart into a UNION SHOP and put more people out of work because of increased costs and hurt the economy worse. Remember the position of the auto makers?

Would you rather do that?

People that work at WalMart have a choice to work there or not.

They certainly do in my town, thanks to Walmart and all the entrepreneurs who took advantage of Walmarts traffic..

Yeah well our Wal-Mart employs more and pays better than our local stores ever will. Our local stores charge big city prices but pays small town wages and only offer part times jobs with zero benefits. They did this long before Wal-Mart ever showed up so I don't feel sorry for them.

I suppose it does depend on the area, but Wal-mart has been a good thing here. No stores have closed, all the snots who love spending too much money still get to spend too much money. The rest of us who only earn so much go to Wal-Mart.

We had a Home Depot come a number of years ago that brought perspective to the local building supply places. The difference with that was the local supply places either offered superior products or adjusted prices, which is the way it should be.

Who would go and pay a third more for a product just to avoid Wal-Mart? It's as self serving as tapping a hooker without protection. It doesn't change a thing and you end up with herpes.

Walmart trains their underpaid workers how to apply for public assistance. So in a sense, us taxpayers help Walmart destroy us through liberalism.
