I cannot add thought as to what it is except I hear the same thing and I just purchased mine new in box from my LHS on Friday. Aside from hitting the bind button on the back, if I play with the settings causing the "beep" sound enough, I get the buzz. It's comming from the little speaker on the front if you put your ear near it.

The buzz is coming from the voltage regulator and, as onewasp said, is quite normal.

I have 2 dx7 and cant say that I have ever heard any buzz other than my low voltage alarm I install for my Infinamodels ION Battery

Dx7 With Ion Power Supply. Why use anything else.

This is normal, and has been reported on many spektrum radios. It's just the sound of the cheap linear voltage regulator they use. If it bothers you that much there is a mod you can do to replace the regulator. It also increases the run time you get. Way more efficient. Here is a link if your upto the task

It's not the voltage regulator. It's the 2.4GHz circuitry. My 12X does the same thing. The reason pushing the bind button the back makes the sound go away is because it cuts the 2.4GHz output.

The sound it totally normal.

Sorry to argue, but it's the voltage regulator. Yes your expensive 12X has the same cheap linear regulator. The only reason pushing the bind button makes it go away, is it cuts the current draw on the regulator. You might be confused by this cause the regulator is right next to the 2.4 circuitry. Just look at pictures in my link. You are right though it is quite normal, and nothing to really worry about.
