eh i fly futaba and spektrum and I still think it's funny. brings the rc hobby more into everday life then just being a nerd thing. both are good systems and both have negatives, i still prefer spektrum, just wish they had a decent transmitter. guess we'll see how the 11x is besides ugly.

Very good! Seems like a logical truth.

If Spectrum is so good, why do they need EXTRA satellites to make sure that they recieve the siginal??

Seems like a crutch to me....

Maybe more of something that "Dood" made to stir the pot, so to speak.

Can't imagine that Futaba would have put this out, no-matter how accurate the theory might be.....

They're trying to point out that reliability through redundancy is a bad thing?

A device that logs signal reliability and receiver voltage is a bad thing?

Oh? And I suppose I posted it on Hobbico's own youtube account, too.

Ok. Let's do a Horizon Hobby vs. Great Planes commercial, shall we?

"Hi, I'm Great Planes, the authorized U.S. Futaba dealer. You have a problem? Fill out this form. Mail us your radio at your expense. Make sure to give us your credit card number so we can charge you a fee just to look at your radio. Make sure to include your receipt so we know you didn't buy the radio used. What's that? A switch broke off? Well, this damage is too expensive to repair. We can either return your broken radio to you (minus the $79 fee to look at it plus shipping) or so we can sell you a replacement radio at our dealer cost plus shipping."

and

"Hi, I'm Horizon Hobby, the authorized U.S. JR/Spektrum dealer. You have a problem? Let me get your address so that I can send you a free return authorization sticker in the mail. It will get to you in a few days. Simply place the sticker on the outside of the package and your radio will be shipped to us for free. What's that? You lost your receipt? No problem. We'll fix it for you in the spirit if good customer service. In a few weeks, a brand new radio will appear on your doorstep at no cost to you."

If Dood had done it, it would have been with a LOT better actors and a better script. Those actors sucked big time. I've seen better acting in porn movies.

The only thing that commercial got right was the comparison of repair costs between Futaba and Apple. Both companies charge you and arm-and-a-leg for a simple repair.

The Spektrum video posted by Dood is interesting.

What it fails to mention is the firmware update Spektrum issued when it was identified that their stuff took 3 to 5 seconds to recover from a brown-out.

That's what started the rumors (true) about the Spektrum brown-out problems.

What they did to fix the problem was reprogram the RX to use the last known configuration instead of going through a complete re-boot when the power came back.

Here is an ad I think they could do that could still be inspired by the Apple ad while also being unique to the hobby.

You show two people in their respective homes logging onto an internet forum. One logs in as SpekFan and the other FutFan (hopefully these names don't already exist). Then they start sending angry posts to each other touting the technical specs of their respective electronics of choice and promoting the benefits the pilot sees as a result. As they are bitching back and forth, you see the seasons change in the windows next to their computer while their asses are still stuck in their chairs. So then they finally meet each other at a fly-in and realize that neither can fly worth ****.

Ok maybe that ad doesn't benefit either company.

I was a Futaba fan on their nuts until basically last week. Bought a DX7 and now that's it. Aside from reading all the horror stories of people and their costs with Futaba, when I looked at sending a surface receiver in to them for possible repair, I crapped a brick when I saw I had to pay just for them to look at it.

In the end, both have pros and cons, it comes down to preference. But, remember the vast majority, no matter how much money they CAN afford to spend, will try to do it at the most cost effective way, just like a company will and why not do it that way. When you can get a product that MANY will attest to as being "amazing" and "just as good" ETC for better pricing, options, programming ETC, who wouldn't go with that?

I'm Futaba and dual diversity was my idea

Actually I have both. A futaba 12Z and a DX7

Personally so far I am not that crazy about the DX7 but then it's not fair to compare it to the 12Z. Guess I should be comparing it to a 7 or 8 channel Futaba. Not gonna happen soon.

I got the DX7 because I fly a lot of Parkzone stuff. Plus I was curious with everybody and their brother using the DX7 to see why.

Well I haven't figured that out. It's a toy to me. I don't like the fact that you keep having to turn it off and on to change models. Seems weird. Strange interface. I guess if I started with the DX7 the Futaba interface would be strange. Oh well. Having the DX7 hasn't lit up my desire for Spektrum/JR.

Besides, I don't have all of those extra wires and satellite things to deal with. Futaba doesn't need all that extra help to receive.

Man I am really confused now. I use an Apple Computer and a Spectrum DX7.

Does this mean I have to switch back to PC or switch to Futaba.

No thanks I will keep what works on both counts.

Maybe Apple will build a Mac TX, then I would lay down my Spectrum for something different. Then I could program my TX with Itunes for a small fee of course!

Should we forget the DX6 recall too?

I bet Dood remembers that one.

Yep.
And I remember the Futaba FASST recall from a few years ago, whereas people were discovering, at the field of all places, that 2 separate transmitters could have simultaneous control of the same model.

The video is funny but it points up the fact that it is always better to spend ones time on productive things like developing new servos, receivers and peripherals that make the hobby better and safer for all of us.
