With the larger heli, namely Vario XLV, what is the best practice for tightening the main blades? what I really mean is how tight should the blade grip hold the blade in the throat. I have a fear that a sudden change in pitch may make the blade move. Should the main blades be treated in the same way as tail rotor blades, in that they are allowed to find there own position and perhaps torqued up after they have been rotated fast enough to centralize?

what do others do?

I think you have to torque it down enough so that the blade doesn't lag when pitch is applied.

if im not blade bogging youll find me pack puffing

Do not do the blades the way you stated, as you will have a vibration problem. You want the blades tight enough in the grip so it takes one hand on the grip, and one on the blade to do a deliberate movement. Not locked down, not free floating.
