Finally the ALIGN 3G Programmable FBL system is offically released!

Worrying about need to spend more money on the servos to fit the system? Forget it, this system fit for all brand servos. Which make it easier for the end-user to do the combination.

Here are some features: 1. Suitable for all CCPM and mechanical mixing system. 2. Simplistic setup process without the need of external devices. Setup is done through 5 steps and 2 sensitivity adjustments. Rudder setup is identical o GP780 gyro, minimizing learning curve. 3. Comaptible with helicopter of all sizes from T-Rex 250 to T-Rex 700.

3G first flights
I got about 5 flights in today and I like it. More cyclic, less drag at extreme cyclic, more pop and power overall as a result. The machine feels lighter and just like my sim machine on G5. Flies with no unusual tendencies, really no transitions or adjustments to someone used to flybars. I got a feeling that I will be flying this on all my machines, if the first few flights are any indication.

So g5 is over tuned?

I run phoenix and g4.5, and am curious more as to what you mean?

Have you any other fbl experience? If so, please elaborate on the differences.

By G5 I mean the simulator I fly.

My initial flights showed that the 3G was very easy to set up and flies very much like a well setup 700, only better.

The first hover was very uneventful, nothing really different from a fly bar system in the hover, very stable today in the 20km wind.

Fast forward flight was completely smooth no pitchiness and tracked straight. The rolls, using both left and right aileron, in forward flight were axial and did not require any elevator corrections what so ever. Noticably fast in forward flight.

Following the instruction manual with cyclic plus minus 14 and pitch plus minus 14(in the swash mix), (Pitch in idle ups were reduced to plus minus 12 via pitch curves) cyclic felt very very good, smooth and powerful, (Pitch in idle ups were plus minus 12)with no bobble with DR 100% and EXPO 20, in idle up and 100% and Expo 35% in hover.

The machine flies with more power in that it bogs very little compared to the flybar 700, especially in elevator, aileron tick tocks and big ben type manuevers. Less attention to collective management is necessary with this additional power and you can focus more attention to you cyclic inputs. The cyclic is sure and powerful with no bobble at the stops in the tic tocs. This makes it fly just like my G5 dominion sim heli with 13 pitch and 13 cyclic.

Piro flips were completely normal like a flybar 700, but again with more power, you get a more consistent power with less variation in the manuever and the machine felt lighter.

Tail set up was simple like the align 760. The gyro does a better job than the 760 in that it handles the wind much better. The piros are more consistant in speed under varying engine loads, so that the piros dont speed up and slow down etc.

3G setup
1. The DIR setting mode in the 3G system will only record the subtrim position. If subtrim is not changed, there is no need to return to the DIR setup mode. But the digital trim on the TX must be zeroed every time the DIR setup is performed.

You dont have to zero the subtrim every time you enter the DIR menu.... I just leave my sub trim set the way it is when I re do the cyclic limits to increase or decrease them.

During setup in DIR, the cyclic servo endpoints should be left at 100%, as the 3G only requires that the swash be level at 0 degrees, via adjustments to the subtrims and mechanical setup.

No changes to the endpoints from 100% is recommended at setup or after flight trimming.

2. After DIR setting is completed, the only TX setting changes allowed for aileron and elevator are:

A) Digital TX trim

B) D/R

C) EXPO

D) SWASH AFR (futaba) or Cyclic swash mix(JR/Spektrum)% This is for adjusting the ail/ele response speed rate, it does not affect the ail/ele end point limit, no need to re-enter DIR

The AFR (cyclic swash mix) will only decrease the cyclic rate... If you set your DIR limits at example 60% and the helicopter rolls to slow increasing just the AFR will not increase the roll speed. You must redo the DIR limits at the higher value... But you may turn the AFRs down to decrease the roll/elevator speeds.

E) Collective Swash Mix (JR/Spektrum) to set overall max pitch

3. During actual flights, multiple flight conditions (IE normal and aerobatics) with different digital TX trims can be used to trim the heli for level inverted/normal hover.

4. The maximum pitched allowed for both collective and cyclic is 14 degrees. But since not everyone needs that much pitch, we recommend 12 degrees. This value is also the result of Alan Szabo’s recommendation after numerous tests, which is a good balance between smooth and fast flying characteristics. But of course you could also set the cyclic pitch to your liking.

5. The manual skipped elevator swash mix percentage setting because the system automatically sets a cyclic ring based on aileron swash mix percentage setting. (This renders the SWASH RING function useless on the TX.) So only aileron setting is needed, setup to the elevator swash mix will have no effect to the 3G system.

Thanks steph and alan, I hope I got it straight.

heli_ca thanks for the setup info.
Much appreciated.

I was unsure about using a leveller to level swash at high & low travel because the manual states to NOT adjust individual servo endpoints.

I was originally going to set swash level at 0* only & leave endpoints at 100/100.
I will now setup according to your recommendations & level the swash throughout travel prior to finalising FBL configuration.

You need to level the swash ONLY at mid point using subtrims, and then go through the DIR setup mode for the system to register your neutral point. Do not try to level the swash at top or bottom of travel, since it's automatically compensated by the 3G system in flight. Doing so will only confuse the 3G system and cause problems.

Does the Heli have to be on a completely flat surface when switched on, (before each flight) for the sensors to initialise?

Thanks Nick
