HC-Rigid in extreme mode does 3D fine, but not with the built-in tail gyro. You need to use a decent tail gyro. Even a Fut401 works pretty good when you go flybarless since it does not have to combat as much tail torque.
I've run this setup on one of my Ionx's (essentially the electric version of your Fury Extreme) and had a local 3D guy ring it out. Worked fine. The only tip is to take your servo arms in ~4mm (I went from 19mm to 15mm) to give better resolution. You do the same thing with Vbar as well.
The only thing against HC-rigid for 3D is that it's pretty expensive compared to most other FBL systems, since you are paying for the stablisation feature (which you will not use for 3D flying). However, if you have access to one cheap, I'd give it a go.
